There's no way the Vatican doesn't have a heavy metal band. The country is run by a freakin' Pontifex, which has to be the name of some band somewhere

Yeah, seems a missed opportunity. They only need one to shoot right to the top of the per capita list. Come on, Jorge!

Appears there is a band called Pontifex - a avant garde metal band. From Florida, but the band includes members of Suffocation, etc.

I think the pope used to be the lead singer of Ghost.

Morbid fascination definitely looks like an heritage of viking culture

what does morbid fascination have anything to do with anything?

But yea there is indeed a link with nordic culture and metal bands, but those are the bands that sings about (germanice/nordic) gods and glory, and well, beer.. (mead actually) and not about morbid stuff. No more morbid than wagner

I was very surprised Japan was not here. When I traveled there, I met a ton of Japanese metalheads. That was the third country I tried after the US and Sweden.

I'm also disappointed that the Vatican doesn't make it at least per capita. Sweden was my first guess. Have a friend who spent a lot of time in a band that played Swedish-style death metal.

Those wild and crazy Nordics! …by which I actually mean to say they don’t really seem very wild or crazy at first blush, but apparently they definitely know how to let loose.

Awesome quiz! For those who haven't seen Sam Dunn's metal documentaries, please allow me to recommend the hell out of them. 'Metal: A Headbanger's Journey' and 'Global Metal' are both great.

I know absolutely nothing about heavy metal and still managed to get 23/26. I suppose this explains why that is only worth 3 points.

When I was preparing my resume for a law school job fair, my school's career advisor told me to include some personal interests and get creative with it, as a good way to spark conversation during interviews. I listed that I play guitar in a band, and put my job position as "Shreditor-in-chief." A partner from an elite New York firm interviewed me and spent the whole 20 minutes asking me to explain the reference to her, because she initially thought it was a typo. She never got the joke, and I never got the job. It was totally worth it though. The next guy that interviewed me was really into metal, and we talked forever. Then he hired me and I stayed there for four years. \\m//

I thought the Pope fronted a metal band. Wouldn't that be enough to qualify in the per capita section?

I did a little digging and couldn't find any popes that were members of metal bands. It is rumored that Urban VIII was in a hip-hop group, though.
