Nothing quite defines the sound of the 90's like Grunge and Alternative. The rebel yell of that decades youth as they shouted out for identity in an increasingly convoluted world. See how many songs of that era you can identify on a few words.
Indeed, there are three Canadian bands in there that can make it very difficult and a few more obscure American entries, but that was the intent. It's not just about making an easy quiz with all your nostalgic favourites, it's about exposing even folks who, like yourself, grew up with the music to some of the lesser known bands of the era that were just as musically and lyrically powerful as their more popular counterparts. I hope if nothing else, you'll at least check out some of those more obscure bands and see what they were all about. :)
I love Our lady peace, but even that song is a deep, deep cut on their first album before they got big. same with the blind melon song, its just that we dont know the words. I feel like if youre gonna do a lyrics quiz, we should at least have a fighting chance to have at least known the lyrics when the song came out.
It's easily one of the biggest hits off that OLP album, which went platinum, it's also the title of that album. If I wanted to go with a deep cut I'd have picked something like Zenith Crossing that wasn't even released a single.
Also, the Blind Melon song was also released a single off their best selling album. That line in particular being one of their most oft repeated lines.
I mean, both songs have music videos and have been included on Greatest Hits compilations for both bands. How much more do you want?
Songs that people have heard. Change is passable, I guess, but Our Lady Peace is a marginal 90's band to start with, and some of the others are too obscure to be fair game. I understand the impulse to include some lesser-known tunes, but the proportions in this quiz are off. Why not include a lesser Nirvana or Pearl Jam track instead of making those bands gimmes and then picking some near-impossible other songs by bands no one knows?
