A really good quiz, thank you

It would be great if those towns more commonly known by their shorter version could be included as correct answers e.g stoke, barrow, southend

However, you could just count West Bromwich, Sutton Coldfield and Solihull as Birmingham. Count Hayes, Barking, Dagenham and Sutton as London. Also accept Leamington, Stoke.

I can’t speak for some of the other suggestions but West Bromwich and Sutton Coldfield are definitely not part of Birmingham - they are towns in their own right (to use Sutton’s full name, it’s ‘The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield’).

Sutton Coldfield IS part of Birmingham City, however much the inhabitants don't like it! West Bromwich is different, it is one of several separate towns that are bunched together under Sandwell MBC

There is great inconsistency in how you deal with towns in metropolitan areas. Sutton Coldfield is part of Birmingham City; Dagenham, Barking, Sutton, Purley, Beckenham and Hayes are within Greater London yet are noted separately while Croydon, Enfield, Bromley, Kingston-upon-Thames and possibly other highly populated towns within the Greater London county do not appear.

Why is Winchester not included? Population is about 120,000. Also please can you correct the spelling of Guildford, and maybe allow Leamington Spa and Tunbridge Wells without the word Royal in front? Otherwise, a good quiz.

What a quiz! Good work. Could I suggest you maybe change the title though, as the majority of these places aren't cities?

Well, it's your quiz, not mine, just a suggestion :-)

I’m a bit confused as to why Lancaster isn’t included when Morecambe is despite its population being lower.

Says the quiz has been updated to not include boroughs but Barking and Dagenham are part of London, so is Beckenham. So is Hayes (both of them).

STILL incorrectly including Hayes, Barking, Beckenham, Dagenham, Acton and Purley which are all within Greater London in one or other of the London Boroughs and Sutton Coldfield which is part of Birmingham City. Purley for example lies within the London Borough of Croydon and Croydon itself is bigger. similarly Beckenham with Bromley and Acton with Ealing. Hayes is smaller than Uxbridge, the largest town in LB Hillingdon; and Barking and Dagenham are the two towns for which the LB of Barking and Dagenham are named - why include those yet exclude Richmon upon Thames or Enfield or any of the other borough namesake towns? London should cover all of the Greater London Authority area, the old GLC

Agree with earlier comments about inconsistencies of how urban areas are handled.

However probably largely due to the original source which the quiz setter is doing their best to interpret.

This source was written by an organisation which focuses on "forests, wildlife, oceans" so probably not experts on urban geography! And includes the caveat "Note that double listings may reflect different spellings or definitions of urban agglomerations" which suggests it was web-scraping rather than human-curated. :-(
