IGN Top 100 RPGs of All Time

Much like the Top NES, SNES Games, or top comic Heroes / Villains, IGN created a top 100 list of RPG video games in 2015. PC, console, handheld, all represented. Can you name them all?
IGN only included RPGs that have official English localizations.
Where possible, the quiz designer has offered as many acceptable answers for each game as possible. For some popular series, the user can input abbreviations. Example: Final Fantasy VII can be cleared by typing that, or "Final Fantasy 7" or merely "FF7."

A fun thing we can do in the comments: name all the RPGs (or whole RPG series) you think IGN failed to take into account.

First few that come to mind for me:

- Star Ocean

- Valkyrie Profile

- Drakengard / NieR

- Atelier series

- Shin Megami Tensei *proper* (ie, the actual numbered series, not Persona)

True that. I'd take that over Illusion of Gaia on this list. :)

Suikoden 1, 3, and 5 (not 4 or Tactics, they were terrible). Ogre Battle 64. Valkyrie Profile. Dragon Warrior 2 and 3. I'm sure there's more, but those I can think of off the top of my head.

Also Arc the Lad 1, 2, and 3 (although they could combine the entry into one since they were sold in the US as a single collection).

I agree with pretty much everything you're saying here kenpo! I know this may sound absurd to some people, but the list skews disproportionately towards Western RPGs ... just when you consider raw numbers of RPGs developed in different regions ... one would expect more room for JRPG franchises. And I also think they made weak picks for certain franchises (Phantasy Star 1 2 4, but not 3? I'd take 3 over 2 personally...)

I know IGN has terrible opinions (after all, I've turned several of their lists into quizzes myself), but this list still annoys me.

Biased by nostalgy cause I don't think many people in 2020 would enjoy more Pokemon Red/Blue as much as Skyrim/WoW etc.

In my case Ar Tonelico and especially the second game would definitely be in the top 10 but I don't see IGN giving credit to unknown games :/
