I always forget Bangladesh eq. Guinea and Gabon. Also missed Maldives and East Timor. Also you should accept myanmar for Burma, PNG, for Papua New Guinea, eswatini for Swaziland, and FSM for micronesia
I can honestly say that this is my favourite quiz on JetPunk. Both the amount of memory practice it provides and the ease with which it makes all the countries appear in my mind on the map account for the high quality of experience for me.
Also, after a full year of going at it from time to time, the unthinkable finally happened! I have just missed my own country ;_;
Is there a way to make it (using some HTML and CSS) so that the user doesn't know how many countries they have guessed nor the amount of time they have remaining? That would be really cool. Great quiz!
Could you change Macedonia to North Macedonia since that’s the official name since 2019 please? Thank you! I had so much fun doing this, only forgot 4!
Wow, I have done the normal map quiz so many times that I had ten minutes left when I got my last group of countries I forgot. I was sure for 2 minutes that I missed some random island countries, but I actually forgot all of Southeast Asia! Love the quiz. Nominated!
Maybe almost everybody below you got close to 0 and everybody above you got close to all. The median (50% of people worse and 50% of people better) would be around 190 and the arithmetic mean would be around 160
My strategy was going through every continent one at a time until I thought I'd got every country there so that I wasn't constantly 2nd guessing myself as to if I'd forgotten anything.
I got to 195 and, after typing in every country in Africa again (the last continent I did) just gave up and realized that I'd thought of Jamaica and just didn't type it.
Just took it for the first time. Got them all with 13:04 left. I've been spending much too much time taking the countries of the world quiz too often methinks.
This was hard, but I got it on one try. I assumed that I would drop the ball with Nauru or Equatorial Guinea or the like. Turns out the one I almost missed was Venezuela! After I thought I had cleared all of South America, I had accidentally jumped straight north to Panama. I only got it by retracing my steps and my memory.
some tips for those who struggle a bit more or forget one or two countries, try having the countries in groupings in your mind so take Oceania for example:
The Big 2 (Australia & New Zealand)
The P's: (Papua New Guinea and Palau)
The T's: (Tonga and Tuvalu)
The S's: (Samoa and Solomon Islands)
The M's (Micronesia and Marshall Islands)
The -U's (Nauru and Vanuatu)
The -I's (Fiji and Kiribati)
So instead of 14 individual countries you have 7 groups that are super easy to remember.
You can do this for each continent and if you do it correctly the groupings can decrease what you need to remember by a factor of 2 to 4. if you use small groupings, you shouldn't miss any single country
Seems to lend itself even more nicely to an acronym of either bumspit or bumpsit, whichever you want to use. For the others I checked by continent that I had all of them: SA (Excl France) 12, NA 23, EUR 45, Asia 48 and the rest in Africa. I tend to imagine some path going through each country rather than remember them by letter.
Personnally, I always get PNG along with East Timor as neighbors of Indonesia. Australia and New Zealand can't be missed.
Then, the 3 compound names: Solomon Islands, Marshall Islands, FSM. I always associate Fiji, Samoa and Tonga (they are geographically close by the way). Then another group with Kiribati, Nauru and Palau ; and the two similar words Vanuatu and Tuvalu.
As for the caribbean, I have memorized their order north to south (but this is not perfect or I would not have missed St Lucia today...).
This is a really good test of your knowledge. Nearly forgot Fiji, spent almost 10 minutes re-typing the other 195 countries a second time before I realised it was the missing one!
Eswatini. I start with the North American and South American mainland working south, then do all the island (and mostly island) countries starting in the Caribbean and working east to get to 71. Then I work snakewise around Europe and Asia starting at Norway and ending in Vietnam to get to 148. Then just work my way down through Africa north to south.
Mauritius for me. I went through North America north-south, Caribbean west-east, South America north-south, Oceania starting at Australia and going counterclockwise, Europe west-east, the Middle East, the Stan countries, East Asia, South Asia, SE Asia, and then Africa north-south ending with Mauritius.
Kiribati. I do the continents - NA from Canada to Panama, Caribbean islands, SA from Colombia to Argentina, Europe from Iceland to Greece, Asia from Turkey to East Timor, Africa from Egypt to South Africa. Although with each continent, I do the island countries all at once after I finish the mainland to make sure I don't forget any. Finally I do Oceania last in the same order - three big countries, then the four "u's", then the three "a's", then the two 'Islands" and lastly the two "i's", so in any of these world quizzes, Kiribati is my last entry.
New Zealand because I like to leave my home country until last. Did The Americas mainland, then Africa, then Asia, then Europe, then European islands, then North American islands, then African islands, then Asian, islands, and finally Oceania. Momentarily forgot Kiribati.
I went in an order except for Africa. That's my weakness. Buuut to my surprise I only missed 2 African countries. One I typed in wrong and thought I already guessed, the other I should've known.
Oh my god I am so disappointed in myself the only country I missed was CHINA, I just thought that I would have when I was filling in all my missing ones :(((
I went through the countries in an order, got to the end and had 195. No way to know where I had missed one. So frustrating, but a great quiz. Oh, and the one I missed...Kuwait.
Smashed through it, but still had one to go. Took me ages to realise it was Iceland! The map in my head forgets about islands. Still had many minutes to spare though.
What a fun quiz, definitely got the cogs turning. I knew I missed a few African countries when I'd finished Africa, but couldn't think what they were... Uganda *facepalm. Apart from that, I missed Island countries, which is my weakness and Monaco. I'm happy for my first try.
Canada - USA - Guatemala - Belize ... (15 minutes later, after retyping every Caribbean, African, Asian, European and Pacific country in order 3 times) ... 195/196.
Managed it in 4 mins 38secs.... I do my normal countries of the world quiz in a specific order anyway and know what the number should read when I finish certain regions etc. so I kept to that and thought the map out in my head.
The easiest way for me is to do the countries in Oceania first, then the Caribbean, then go down the americas from Canada to Chile/Argentina. Then, do all the islands like Taiwan, Maldives, Seychelles, Cabo verde, and Malta first and go from South Africa to Egypt, then do the Arabian peninsula. Then, start Europe with the microstates and then go from west to east and go and do the former ussr countries and do the rest of the continent.
On my first pass I got everything but India with over 14 minutes to go.. took me 6 minutes to remember that one for some reason. I'd say Switzerland is much easier to forget than India.
As in half of the quizes here, I almost always forget exactly one answer- each time I take this quiz a different one. :( How is this always just one, not two or something.
Missed 2 countries with 10 minutes left so I had to go thru them all again! Found out they were Turkey and the Philippines with 3 minutes left! First try btw ;) Good luck everyone that missed one or two! You can do this!!!
I was convinced I was missing one in Africa because I thought Africa had 55 countries and after going through Africa I had only added 54, but I couldn't figure it out after double-checking most of the continent so I gave up. It turns out there are only 54 countries in Africa and I was missing Brunei.
Very challenging, it challenges my memory. I thought I typed in Italy but I didn’t and also same with Uganda and Singapore, Belize I just completely forgotten
missed micronesia, tried to list all of oceania at the start, and spent few minutes trying to remember what i could have missed before giving up. great quiz tho!
a trick for Oceania is to do the countries that end in U (Nauru, Palau, Tuvalu, Vanuatu). Then start with Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga (FST, sounds like Fast). Then do the countries ending in Islands (Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands). Then end with Micronesia, Australia and New Zealand (M.A.N). So basically: You fast island man.
I do the ones in the north first from left to right (Palau, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Kiribati) then I go to the ones that veer southeast from Papua New Guinea (Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji), then I do Nauru, Tuvalu, Samoa, Tonga
Very hard quiz but a lot of fun. I managed it by doing North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania then Asia trying to picture the maps. Brilliant quiz.
I have my normal path for countries of the world, but this quiz makes me think more. By the time I got to egypt I had 141 so I missed one and when done with africa I missed another which was Cameroon cus I thought I typed it. But the other one I missed... was very obvious. aka freaking China.
A technique I use is to work through the countries systematically, continent by continent (e.g. North America to South America to Africa e.t.c). And I try to picture a world map in my mind to remember the islands. That’s how I always do it.
I did it like: North America, Caribbean islands, South America, African islands, Africa, Middle East, Oceania, Asian islands, East Asia, ‘Stan’ countries, any others, European islands, Europe.
195/196 with more than 10 minutes left, took another 6 minutes to find Bosnia because I got all the countries around it without realizing I had missed it.
Got them all. I do them continent by continent and I usually work my way around the edge, stopping to do a few landlocked ones. I also start with the islands otherwise I know I will forget them.
First try. Got 193 pretty quickly and had to go back through and think of what I forgot. Then I got Laos, Botswana, and PNG in like 5 minutes of thinking.
Missed Madagascar, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Kazakhstan. For Kosovo and Montenegro I knew something was missing there but couldn’t figure it out. Kazakhstan I literally thought to myself I’ll do that with the other “stans,” and I didn’t. Madagascar just didn’t make it onto my mental map.
Also, after a full year of going at it from time to time, the unthinkable finally happened! I have just missed my own country ;_;
This beats or equals 35.7% of test takers
The average score is 169
Your high score is 190
Uh wat
Math?
Must've been because I was too focused on Eswatini and Lesotho lol

Australia & NZ
PNG
Fiji, Samoa, Tonga
Solomon Islands, Marshall Islands
Kiribati, Micronesia
Vanuatu, Tuvalu
Nauru, Palau
I think this pairs the most similar-sounding ones together.
I typed only European countries until I got to 45.
Then Asian countries until I got to 93 (45+48)
Then African countries until I got to 147 (45+48+54)
Then Oceania until 161(45+48+54+14)
Then South America until 173
Then North America to finish.
Mainland North to South and the Caribbean Islands.
Brazil, I thought of it but somehow didn't type it
Serbia, same
Kenya, same
Taiwan, how did I not think of these guys?
Namibia, thought of it while typing Angola
Botswana, thought of it while typing Zambia, but then typed Zimbabwe instead (ack)
Bangladesh, slipped my mind
Sierra Leone
Gabon Always have trouble with these 3 (my big 3)
Malawi
Maybe next time, of course I'll miss something different!
Got them all on the second try, though I forgot Malawi existed for a whole minute.
Why did my brain deny the existence of Mexico???
195/196
dang
great quiz :)
i went through every other oceanian country three times each and i didn't get fiji
I forgot Italy, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Tajikstan, and a couple more
I wrote nearly every country two times because of South Africa.
Ireland, Fiji, Ghana, and North Macedonia of all things, and then Tuvalu and Vanuatu. I have no idea how I missed these.
*Forgets that big ass country and gets 195/196
Spent like 10 minutes trying to think of what I missed only to realize with like a minute and a half left that I had never typed Ivory Coast
