Great suggestion!!! I actually changed it so that I took out four uncommonly known birds and added some more commonly known ones. There are still some great obscure ones in there for those Birders out there!

Why no sparrow?

I put sparrow in and actually completely changed the quiz. Sorry I'm still learning :(

Excellent range there ^.^ Some I'd recommend adding: crake, ruff, bittern, chough, bantam, shearwater, crossbill, treecreeper, lovebird, chat (as in stonechat, whinchat, etc.), merlin, hobby, harrier, swallow, flycatcher, wagtail, pipit, and egret ^_^

All the ones you mention are all excellent suggestions but mostly obscure and when you only have 99 birds as answers, you have to narrow them down. To keep the quiz enjoyable for the general public I tried to go with more commonly known birds with only a few obscure ones. Swallow IS one of the answers though!!

Nightingale not nightengale. And what about the tits? There are so many species and they are so common that it seems strange to have kakapos but not them.

Nightengale has been changed to nightingale and your other suggestion i'm not entertaining for, I think, obvious reasons

'Bluebird' isn't a species, you probably mean 'blue tit'?

"Bluebirds" are indeed a species. Scientific names of Sialia sialis, Sialia mexicana, and Sialia currucoides refer to the Eastern Bluebird, Western Bluebird and Mountain Bluebird consecutively

Darters are more commonly known as Anhingas

The general public would know them more as darters especially when Anhinga is so hard to spell...

Hmmm....Waxwing? Turnstone? Curlew? Godwit? Skimmer? Creeper?

All birds that won't be known to the general public so therefore not included.

I like the idea, but guessing which 99 birds you mean out of the of 10,000 species is a bit tricky

That's why I included only the birds the general public would more commonly know. Birds suggested in the comments were left out for that very reason.

Would be awesome if someone made a quiz to guess all 10,000!
