Could you accept Netherlands for Dutch Republic? For those of us not from the US, I would not have got Dutch Republic, and I would presume that if it isn't the forerunner of the Netherlands, then the Netherlands encompasses most if not all the Dutch Republic

I accepted Netherlands, but I have now changed it to accept The Netherlands, too.

Can i just point out that its rather sad that 3% of people didn't know that UK was involved in the revolutionary war... And that more people guessed the UK and France than the US. xD

TEchnically the U.S. was not a country during the war, only after it.

That would depend on your point of view. I think most Americans agree that the USA become a country on 4 July 1776 when the colonies declared independence. Most Brits would probably say it became a country when they recognized its independence in 1783. I'm an American, and therefore for the purposes of this quiz it was most definitely a country during most of the Revolutionary War.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Hessiens from Germany fight for the British in the battles of Trenton?
level 76
Feb 11, 2016
Yes, they did, but they were a hired auxiliary army. No one declared war on Germany (to my knowledge - someone correct me if I'm wrong). I suspect some of the German princes might have sent troops to fight on the US side if money had been offered. Russia had an effect on the war, too, when Catherine continued to trade with the US and refused to send troops to help the British, but no one declared war on Russia. The Dutch Republic at first only supported the US with goods, but because of that Great Britain declared war on them which effectively brought them into the war on the US side. If the title of the quiz is misleading, does someone have a better one?

I'm just an amateur quiz-maker. I have no idea how to remove the hint column.

To thing-1, wasn't Germany involved in the war? They were helping Great Britain? And also, just click on dekete column to get rid of the hints

Thanks for the information. I'll try to delete the hint column. Regarding Germany being involved, see my above answer to Keltonet. To my knowledge, war was never declared on Germany even though the British hired German troops to help them.

When more people guess France over the USA and Great Britain in the AMERICAN Revolution

I just noticed that. Interesting. Anyone have a guess as to why?

Funnily enough France was the first Nation I put down, not that I wasn't going to mention GB & USA, When I think of a War or conflict involving Great Britain I always assume France to be on the other side. Unless already given in.

Maybe some are just assuming that those two are a given.

Feb 7, 2018
Exactly! - I only got Great Britain and USA when there were only two spaces left and I couldn't think any other countries who might have been involved.

Hey, what about Germany? Germany sent the Hessians to help England.

Considering that Hanover was in a personal union under Great Britain, it should definitely be on this list. Wikipedia also list Vermont (which was sort of independent) and Mysore (because the Second Anglo-Mysore War was going on at the same time).
