The average annual salary of recent college graduates in the United States have risen and fallen over the past 60 years, based mostly upon the pattern of recessions in the U.S. economy. Salaries are not consistently increasing in spite of the rising cost of receiving a degree.

Much like the cost of tuition and fees at public U.S. universities, cost of attendance has also significantly increased. Percentage wise the increase is not comparable; however, the total cost of attending college has more than doubled in the past 50 years.

Over the past years 50 years, the average cost of tuition and fees to attend a public university in the United States has increased nearly 500%. This is crazy if you consider that the increase in average salary is nowhere near that number.
