Contemplating the Mysteries of the World - Part 10: Television

Screens can show us excitement, but make our lives so boring... so why do we spend so much time on them?

I got this idea from a discussion that I remember having in my AP Language class a while ago. We read an article about how people spend so much time sitting in front of screen, and it has made our lives so much more boring than they used to be. Think about it. We watch these shows about exciting things and sometimes wish our lives could have that much adventure, yet all we do is sit around and stare at screens. People have began to live through their screens instead of going out to explore the world themselves.

Now that we have phones, this issue has just gotten so much worse. We have constant entertainment at our fingertips at all times. People have lost the sense of adventure and exploration for the convenience of watching it on YouTube. Personally, I love to actually explore, but often find myself sitting around on my phone, because technology can be addicting sometimes. I mean, I am writing this on a laptop and y'all are all reading this on a screen.

This way of escaping reality has obviously gotten worse throughout the pandemic, but I think that people are now content with this lazy way of life. I really hope that travel will become normal again, because there are so many places I want to go. I am supposed to go to France this summer, and seeing Paris online is no substitute for actually going. The same goes for the beaches of Croatia, fjords of Norway, or the skyscrapers of Singapore. On a website like this, I am sure that I am not alone in this opinion. Travelling this an amazing experience that cannot be replaced by a picture on Google.

Once again, I apologize for the lack of snark in this blog. Hopefully I can get more rest now that my play is over, so I hope that my next blog will have the normal amount of sass. It probably doesn't help that the character I played was extremely snarky, so I am all out of argumentative and sassy energy. Okay, I think I am done... talking I guess... about TV. I don't even know what this entry is, but you were the one who decided to waste your time reading it.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Rosie.

I like exploring nature also, but I just never get around to it, because I do a lot of Jetpunk, Minecraft, and YouTube.

"I mean, I am writing this on a laptop and y'all are all reading this on a screen." What if I print this out? Lol. nice explanation though about technology and I definitely agree with you. Also, how did your play go?
