Hello dear JetPunkers!
Once again, I come back with an interview. I have started more than ten months ago, but it's not finish yet at all. I hope you continue to enjoy my work on this series.
Just a note: the number of questions is increasing since the publishment of the Stewart's interview, but here there are more questions than for all other interviews excepting the Stewart's one. I thought it was important, because Jiaozira represents a huge part of our JetPunk community. I hope you will like it!
baptistegorce: Hi Jiao! Would you like to be my next interviewee, in my blog series?
Jiaozira: For sure, it would be an honour!
baptistegorce: Excellent! I think you really deserve it. So now let’s start this interview! First, could you present yourself on JetPunk quickly for our readers who don’t know you (if it’s possible…)?
Jiaozira: Hello, my name is Akira (or Jiaozira on Jetpunk). I'm a 20 year-old student from the small Canadian city of Lethbridge, Alberta. I found the countries of the world quiz in 2014 and by 2015 I created my account and began making my own quizzes here on Jetpunk.
baptistegorce: You’re one of the most famous JetPunkers, and one of the only 19 JetPunkers with more than 1,000,000 takes. How do you feel with it? Are you proud?
Jiaozira: 1,000,000 takes is more than I ever thought I would reach! It was an exhilarating feeling to get there after 5 years of quiz-making. Overall though I don't consider myself 'famous' on Jetpunk though, I'm just part of a wonderful and passionate community!
baptistegorce: To become this awesome and famous JetPunker, have you had mentors, or examples to follow as JetPunkers?
Jiaozira: This question is interesting, because I started making maps when they were brand new and so everyone was left to experiment on their own. However, I took a lot of inspiration from great and talented quiz-makers such as Scambigol and KoljiVriVoda in the early days of map-making.
baptistegorce: You wrote just a few blogs, but they’re often mentioned as ones of the best we can read on JetPunk. Do you plan to write other blogs like these ones?
Jiaozira: Yes! I expect to write a small number of blogs per year. I have a passion for writing, but this passion is split between Jetpunk blogs and Quora.
baptistegorce: What is your own quiz you are the proudest of?
Jiaozira: Probably the Official and Regional Languages of Europe on a Map quiz. I put more effort into this quiz compared to any other, and I feel more confident with the quiz's accuracy than the Asian version I did a month after.
baptistegorce: Do you have big projects of quizzes in preparation?
Jiaozira: Nothing big, I'm afraid. I do have a couple smaller projects in mind. I am moving across the country this summer so quizzes and blogs may come slowly for the time being!
baptistegorce: What is the most important event in your own life of JetPunker?
Jiaozira: Definetely the day users were allowed to add maps to their quizzes, in June 2016. I had been dreaming of this feature since I had started making quizzes, and when the feature was added I had a huge list of ideas to fully realise.
baptistegorce: If you had to resume your JetPunk adventure in one word, what would it be?
Jiaozira: Fun. Just fun. I generally make quizzes about topics that interest me, and it is a great deal of fun to share my passions with other people too!
baptistegorce: Would you change something to tour JetPunk adventure, if it was possible?
Jiaozira: I wouldn't change a thing. It has been a great adventure thus far and I have had the chance to interact with so many talented Jetpunkers.
baptistegorce: If you had to choose just three JetPunker for their quizzes, who will it be?
Jiaozira: I would have to choose Scambigol, Crem and OskarRB. I'm a big fan of their quizzes.
baptistegorce: And for their blogs?
Jiaozira: This one's harder since I don't read too many Jetpunk blogs, but I'd go with HelveticaBold, Gassu and Stewart.
baptistegorce: “JetPunk actuality question”: What do you think about the new charts feature? Do you plan to use it in the future?
Jiaozira: This feature sounds quite promising. I love the stories that statistics tell us, and so I'm looking forward to playing around with it. I'm pretty much just hearing about it though!
baptistegorce: Other question about “actuality”: you have been qualified for the next round of the controversial “Greatest JetPunker” ranking. What do you think about it?
Jiaozira: I heard about this. I'm quite humbled to be qualified like this, however I don't think such a ranking is needed. We are all a Jetpunk community, there is no need for 'bests' or 'greatests' in my opinion.
baptistegorce: Completely agreed. What are your passions in life, except JetPunk?
Jiaozira: I have many. At home I've been practicing writing and language learning (right now I'm studying Hindi). I'm huge into adventuring too, be that travelling to new places, mountain climbing and the likes. I've been spending a lot of time outdoors this summer.
baptistegorce: You are on the JetPunk Discord server, but you’re know active on it. What do you think about this server?
Jiaozira: I joined Discord just for the Jetpunk server. It's a great place to connect with fellow Jetpunkers, but it's not for me personally. I just can't keep up with all the messages!
baptistegorce: What do you hope for JetPunk development in the next months?
Jiaozira: I'm happy to see so many people getting into mapmaking. I really hope to see this trend continue, and I hope to see the process become even more accessible in future!
baptistegorce: Do you have a message to pass to the whole JetPunk community (or at least to the few users reading these blogs…)?
Jiaozira: Make quizzes on what you're passionate about! Don't just make quizzes about what you think will get takes. If you make quizzes on what you are passionate about then there will always be someone out there who will appreciate your quiz, no matter how obscure the topic is 🙂
baptistegorce: It's already the end of my questions. Thank you very much for the time you spent for this blog, Jiao!
Jiaozira: It was a pleasure! Happy to answer your questions.
Once again, this interview is finished. Jiao was a very kind interviewee, so I really thank them for the time they spent for us, readers of this series of blogs.
Last notes: the next interviewee will be chosen with a WITJ, so keep checking the RUB section. It should be published after my week of holidays, which arrives.
Thanks again for reading, and have a nice day!
And yes, you adapted very well their concept to Asia and the world.
And of course you can. If you win, you would have to choose an interviewee, or decide to cancel the WITJ, by choosing no one. It's the rule.
Most of the time, it happens on Discord, and then I copy and paste the different parts of the blog, adapting some little things. But I've already use different methods. The only time I collaborated a blog was for the MG's interview.
This helped me to learn more about one of my favourite quizzers on this site, so thank you for that :)
You're late again ...Everyone's said all the good stuff already, so I don't really need to say anything. Thanks for another awesome interview! And no, I wasn't late this time, the last one has been published less than a month ago, so...Idk how what's late and what's not in this series ... I've only seen the release of the last threeI can't really make a full comment on how I enjoy these user interviews at the moment, but for now, nice!
And I completely agree: Jiao is awesome!
