What if the Macedonian Empire Reunited Today?

At its territorial height in 323 BC, the Macedonian Empire was the largest empire the Pre-Roman Era had ever seen. The empire continuously stretched all the way from Greece, in Eastern Europe, all the way to modern-day Pakistan, in Asia. It had seen some great victories at its peak including the what seemed like impossible task of defeating the Persian Empire. However, like all empires, its Golden Age didn't last forever: Gradually the empire lost its power and influence it once had in 323BC, and just could not keep up with newly emerging powers like Rome, until in 168BC, the empire finally fell to the Romans, marking the end of the Macedonian Empire. But what if it reunited today?
Population and Land
Due to so many countries making up the empire, it would have a huge land area standing at around 2,010,000 square miles (5,200,000 sq km)! This would make the empire the 7th largest country in the world, much larger than India (1,269,345 sq miles) and Argentina (1,073,518 sq miles), but still significantly behind Australia (2,969,906 sq miles). Ironically, despite the empire being called "The Macedonian Empire", Macedonia (The Greek State) only has a puny land area of just 13,200 square miles which is only 0.65% of the entire empire's territory!
The population of the empire would also be no disappointment, standing at a huge figure, in the a hundred millions, of around 410,200,000 people! Such a huge number would mainly be due to many booming population centres in the empire's recreated territory like Egypt, Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. However, this would only make the reunited empire the 3rd most populous country in the world, still significantly behind the usual first and second place contenders: An independent India (1.380 Billion) and China (1.44 Billion).
As well as a massive population, the Macedonian Empire would boast some big cities as well. The capital city of the empire would be a very tough choice as the historic capitals of the empire were Pella and Edessa which are very small towns with a population of under 100,000 people and to top that all off, Edessa was destroyed hundreds of years ago and all that remains of the ancient civilization are ruins. In my opinion, the most likely choice of the capital would be Athens as the city is still a significant financial hub for Greece and Europe, with a moderate urban population of 3,500,000. However, do not be fooled by this. Athens would no way near make it into the top 10 most populous urban areas in the empire despite having a place in the historic top 10 cities. Instead, the swinging population centre, Cairo, would be the most populous city in the empire with a huge population of 21,500,000 which makes Athens' population look tiny in comparison. Here would be the rest of the top 10 largest urban areas in the empire.
- Cairo (21,500,000)
- Karachi (18,200,000)
- Istanbul (16,200,000)
- Tehran (15,500,000)
- Lahore (13,500,000)
- Baghdad (7,150,000)
- Alexandria (5,950,000)
- Amman (5,700,000)
- Ankara (5,150,000)
- Kuwait City (4,750,000)
Money and GDP
The Nominal GDP Per Capita of the empire, however, would not be as impressive as its GDP, with the average citizen in the empire earning just $7,969. This is a reasonable number though if you take into consideration about the slightly impoverished conditions in Syria and Lebanon, despite the high living standards in Kuwait and Israel. Nonetheless, this would put the empire in 100th place, in terms of Nominal GDP Per Capita, just slightly richer than the living standards in the Dominican Republic ($7,951) and Botswana ($7,817), but behind that of Iran's ($8,034).
To make up for the quite small GDP Per Capita of the empire, it would control some of the world's most valuable oil reserves in Iran, Iraq, and Syria. This would make the empire very valued among other countries who rely on the Middle East's reserves for their oil.
Religion and Ethnic Groups
Focusing on Ethnic Groups now, Arabs would be the largest ethnicity within the empire at 41% of the population, but still wouldn't be enough to make it up to the 50% mark. Indo-Aryan ethnicities, mainly concentrated around the far east of the empire, would be the next largest ethnic group at 28% of the population, closely followed by Persians at 21% of the population. Greeks would make up a further 2%, Kurds at 7.2%, and finally, the remaining 0.8% of the population would be a mix of various other small ethnic groups.

Military Size
Starting with manpower, the empire would possess a whopping 1,421,000 active-duty troops which would put the empire with the 3rd highest active military troops in the world, even ahead of the United States' (1,359,450 active-duty troops), but remaining behind that of the military juggernauts of India (1,444,500 active-duty troops) and China (2,035,000 active-duty troops). In addition, the empire would have 2,540,000 troops placed in reserves, bringing its troops to a total of 3,961,000.
The next thing we need to think about the Macedonian Empire's military is its budget. Standing at around $28.5 Billion or 0.87% of the empire's total Nominal GDP. This would be the 11th largest military budget in the world, higher than Brazil's budget ($27 Billion) but smaller than South Korea's budget ($43.9 Billion).
A reunited Macedonian Empire would also be a Nuclear Power, inheriting a portion of Pakistan's and all of Israel's nukes. A clear amount would be impossible to estimate but the empire would possess between 190-530 Nuclear Weapons at its disposal.
