On February 19, 2014, I found my way to JetPunk and I took the Countries of the World quiz for the first time. From there, I became an avid quiz-taker. It wasn’t until last year that I really started making quizzes. Of course, anyone who makes quizzes will inevitably run into problems, so I went looking for advice.
That’s how I found the JetPunk reddit and then the Discord server. Lots of people there have been super helpful, and I’ve had the chance to chat with quizmakers from all over the world. I am consistently impressed by the smart and creative quizzes that come out of this group.
I never expected to write a blog post here, but I had an idea. When you make quizzes, you always have at least one favorite that seems underrated. You're like, "Come on, world! How have you not noticed this?" I went to the Discord server and asked them to send me one of their quizzes that deserves more attention. I got a pretty good response.
I took all the quizzes that were sent to me and gave each one a ranking. The rankings were based on this simple criteria: the quiz has to be fun, specifically for me. I’ll share the links to all of them below, but I wanted to specifically highlight my top 5. (By the way, this idea was partly inspired by blogs from HinesBrothers and CringeDragon).
Here we go...
The Top 5:
5. Roman Numeral Encoder- Iluvbread123
Whether you like a quiz or not is very subjective. As for me, I like a quiz that's unique. I also like one that makes me feel at least a little smart. I also like one where I learn something. This one ticks off all those boxes. In general, I did well on this quiz, except for the one question that most people miss. Thanks to this quiz, though, I can now count much higher in Roman numerals.
4. Geopolitical Changes 1995-Now- IAB
One of the frustrating things about trying to learn Geography is that things keep changing on you! You thought you knew that capital, but then no, they renamed it while you weren't looking. IAB does a good job here of summarizing recent changes. It's not an easy quiz, but it's helpful information.
3. 50 States, 50 Landmarks- CringeDragon
I am definitely interested in the world outside the U.S., but I do have a particular interest in my own country and the places I'm more likely to visit. This quiz was a great combination of places I've seen (which brought back memories) and places I'd like to visit (which gets me thinking about future trips).
2. Biggest Cities in 4 Random Countries on a Map- OskarRB
The format of this quiz is incredibly cool. I'm guessing it will be featured at some point. I could see me going back to take this one over and over again. Well done, Oskar.
1. All US National Park Sites by Proximity- MiracleMax
Again, any list like this will be subjective. US National Park sites may not be your thing, and that's ok. As for myself, though, I'm a huge fan of this quiz. I love the "by proximity" map quizzes. They do a great job of making you feel smarter than you are, but still teaching you something along the way.
Honorable Mentions
In addition to the top five, I also want to list the other quizzes that were sent to me. A couple of these came very, very close to being in the top five. These are not listed in order of my ranking-- just in the order that I received them. Thanks for reading, and enjoy the quizzes!
