All about...#3 - Rickrolling

Never gonna give you up

Never gonna let you down

Never gonna run around

And desert you...

These are the most famous words to Rick Astley's 1987 hit song Never Gonna give you up. You may wonder, what's so special about this song?

This blog will exactly tell you that. And it will be divided into 4 parts

  1. Introduction
  2. History
  3. How to Rickroll
  4. Perspectives and trend

Basicly, rickrolling is the art of tricking someone to clicking the hit song "Never gonna give you up" (which has over 870 million views on Youtube). Rickrolling isnt just the Original Video the art can also happen on Zoom meetings files, audios, etc.

The trend started in around 2008 when Rick himself appeared in the 2008 Macy's day Parade in the middle of the song! The trend rose up and is currently still popular, with youtubers and discord users doing it.
There are lots of ways to rickroll someone. There are websites like Cutt.ly and bit.ly. Of course you can send the Original Video but you can put alternative links, disguised links, the list goes on.
Although may be sneaky and against the guidlines, note that with the link HTML, its very easy to rickroll people but dont do it :)

Since the COVID-19 virus, rickrolls have become more popular and are progressing. Have you ever been rickrolled? How was it? Let me know in the comments!

Best,

Mr.Blogger

What should be next?
Btw, more then half the comments on the Iberian Union blog were about the Life question.

The history of rickrolling is a lot more interesting. In 2006, duck rolling was a meme/trend on the website 4chan, until in 2007 a Youtuber called cotter548 made up the meme himself and uploaded the music video onto Youtube before Rick Astley did. The first person he rickrolled was a stranger in the videogame GTA4. This is the reason why there are two rickroll links, one that starts with dQ and the other one by cotter548. Technically speaking, cotter548's link is the official rickroll link, not Rick Astley's.

This is correct. The "rickrolling" by 4chan on the internet happened when he made a word filter where it would swap the word "egg" with "duck". Somebody put in "eggroll" and it swapped into "duckroll". Somebody made a picture of a duck on wheels. People started to make hidden hyperlinks which sends you the image to the duckroll. This was known as "duckrolling". Meanwhile, Never Gonna Give You Up was rocketing in popularity. 3 reasons why is because in a popular show in 2005 launching an episode with the song in it. Another in 2006 when a sportscaster played the music instead of talking about sports. And then when the new GTA4 game was released it sent so much traffic that the game crashed. cotter548 made a hyperlink for the new "Grand Theft Auto 4" trailer and instead was a rickroll.

I love rickrolling people when it makes no sense to do it. For example, I rickrolled MG when I was in a group with him, telling him that I found "another good resource." Good times.
