ALL ABOUT THE SPACE NEEDLE
Introudction
The Space Needle is a 600 feet tall observation tower in the city of Seattle built for the 1962 World's Fair. It is an iconic symbol and building of Seattle and is often pictured in the Seattle skyline images - you might have recognized it because it is shaped like a needle with a pyramid-shaped disc at the top. Many people visit it every year.
Location
The Space Needle observation tower is located in the bustling city of Seattle, in Washington state. Many people that come to Seattle for any reason, often visit the building. More specifically, It is located in downtown Seattle on the uptown region, and sits between Broad street and Thomas street. It is a couple miles away from the Puget sound, an important body of water of Washington.
Architecture
Currently, the Hight of the Space Needle is 603 ft. The space needle is tall, but compared to other tower giants similar to its composition, and even other buildings in Seattle, it is somewhat small. The needle part makes up about 5/6th of the building and on top of that is the rotating restaurant located at around 500 ft tall. There are 2 ways to get to the observation deck and the attractions at the top: Elevators and Stairs. The elevators are the most efficient way. The main stairwell has 848 steps from the basement of the building to the to the top.
History
It all started when Edward F. Carlson, had a plan of constructing a tower with attractions for the upcoming 1962 world's fair that Seattle was going to host. He wanted his idea to be somewhat similar to the Stuggart Tower in Germany. The next step was to purchase the land in the selected area to start building. After all the conferences, they selected the Bagley Wright company to make it. The company had to construct the tall tower quickly - they only had about a year.
When the fair came, people loved it. 20,000 people a day visited it during the fair. It was the tallest building in the west during the time. Not much changed during the time, but there were many concerts and events that were there over the course of the next half century.
In 2017, something big happened though. There was a planned renovation to make an all-glass rotating restaurant, as well as some minor changes to the top. In total, the change costed $100 million,
