How to customize Google Chrome

Introduction

Google Chrome is the world's most used web browser. I am sure that most people reading this have used Chrome before or are using it right now. Here are a two cool things you can do to Chrome to customize it.

#1: Themes

Take a look at my browser right now:

2021-12-05-2

It's okay. And if you don't really care about color, you can leave it like this. But there are so many features that you can do. For example, you can go to the Chrome Web Store, and download a theme of your choice (note that if your account is managed by your school or your company, they may have removed the option to download some themes).

2021-12-05-4

Now that we know how to add themes, I want to show you another way to do that. On the chrome homepage, we can see a pencil icon.

In the two photos above, you can see how to get to the menu from where all the photos are. What you can do now is go into any of the categories, and pick a photo. If you don't know what to chose from, you can click the "refresh daily" button and it will pick a random photo from that category every day. In the example below, I will pick a landscape, but you can always pick any one.

As you can see, customizing the Google Chrome Homepage is very simple, only requiring a few clicks.

#2: App Windows

There is a cool little feature hidden in the Chrome settings that allows you to open websites as if they are apps. Useful? Maybe. But it might be a little more organized than before if you have millions of tabs open.

First, you must click the three dots at the top right of your chrome browser, as shown in the picture below: 2021-12-05-9 Now, go down to where it says "More Tools" 2021-12-05-10 Hover over it, and then click "create shortcut" 2021-12-05-11 When you click that, you will come across this menu you can see below. You can retitle it whatever, probably the name of the website, but you must click the "Open as window" button for it to open as a separate. 2021-12-05-12 So, this is what it looks like in app form: 2021-12-05-13 Now, if you close this window, there are two ways to get back to the window. The first is going through chrome://apps. Basically, chrome://apps stores all the apps. Click on the app you want to get to, and as long as you clicked "open as window" earlier, it should open as a window. If you didn't check that off, though, it will only bring you to the website itself.2021-12-05-14 The second way is going to the real website and clicking the open app icon at the top right, as seen below: 2021-12-05-19 Oh, by the way! In the picture that is above this text, I have changed 16 things in the picture above, try to find them all and tell me which ones you found in the comments! Update: The comments section has already found all of them and I have posted the answers there as well so if you don't want it spoiled than don't go to the comments section right now.

I hope you have enjoyed the first of hopefully a few tutorials on how to customize software. I will catch you in the next article, and good luck finding the easter eggs!

Hello! I hope you have learned something about how to customize Google Chrome a little more. As I mentioned earlier, in the last screenshot are 16 easter eggs. Basically, I used Microsoft Paint to remove/replace/swap certain objects on the screen. If you find any let me know :)

Also, if you have any questions about this, let me know as well

Right now, 8:35 EST, just about 30 minutes after posting, I am pretty sure that all of the easter eggs have been found. Spoiler alert: Here are all of them:

1-5. The + and x signs on the tabs are flipped around

6 and 7. The reload and front arrows are swapped

8. The locked button on the bar is removed

9. The URL is jetpunk.com/create-blog/create-blog which is an impossible URL

10. The battery percentage is inflated to 10,000%

11-13. The names of the tabs at the top are different

14. The shown time is 26:59 PM

15 and 16. The date has been changed to 12/12/2121, which just so happens to be a palindrome (it reads the same front and back)

Easter eggs: The first Jeppy is upside-down, next to that it says Oh hi there if you are reading this leave a comment below, 10,000 percentage, time is 2121, 26:59, you don't have a security lock, the reload is turned around and is in between the arrows,

BRUH!!!!!!!!!!!

However, there is still one thing (or, should i say, 5 things) that you are missing

Hint: Look at the tabs again :)

Another thing you are missing has to do with the date...

Easter Eggs :

your tabs read like "oh hi there if you are reading this leave a comment below

Your battery is on 10000%

Your date is 100 years into the future

Your time is in 24 hour time but incorrect

On the taskbar the percentages add to more than 100%

On the tabs one JetPunk icon is flipped

Hmm...better leave some for someone else

Well, it is really just one remaining, but there are multiple occurrences of that.

Its as if I had swapped out the 4 apples with 4 bananas and one banana with one apple all around the picture

Woah, this is cool! Shame I use Safari, not Chrome... but amazing blog nonetheless!

Just curious, did you have to upload to Wikimedia to use the images, or did you somehow use html (I don't know much about html use in blogs, so I'm not sure if that's possible)?

I like having JetPunk as a separate app because then I can only have one tab open. That seems like a bad thing, but when I'm on Chrome, I have 3 different blog tabs open, 5 different tabs to research, while I'm actually doing something else on another tab. When I can't add more tabs, I can focus on writing one blog.

I despise Chrome! It has caused my laptop much harm than benefit. Mozilla Firefox and Edge are the best. All who support Firefox and Edge, say aye beneath this comment!

Anyway, nice blog! :)

I have to agree, Chrome is kind of slow. Currently I actually use another browser, Brave, which is like much faster and has a built in adblocker, but has similar features to chrome
