Taking SVGs Further with The Simpsons

Full disclosure: I am not really a Simpsons fan. This isn't because I dislike the Simpsons, in particular, but simply due to the fact that I've never been much of a television enthusiast. Be that as it may, I have been exploring different ways to make use of the ever-improving SVG functions here on JetPunk.

After having taken the flag map quizzes (such as scambigol's world map version), I thought it would be fun to make an SVG quiz wherein a quiztaker would guess the specific colours of national flags within a map. I began with Africa, exploring ways to reduce file size without compromising vexiological integrity. While I was pursuing this via Adobe Illustrator in my free time, I noticed that I was 'beat to the punch' with SaturnTheQuizzer's excellent Fill the Map of Europe by Guessing Flag Colors quiz. After asking Saturn if I might continue with my African version (and receiving his blessing), I got to work in earnest, completing both the African and Asian flag colour quizzes.

I began work on North and South America, but found them less satisfying (I may return to these at a later date, if any significant demand exists). Instead, I continued my colour quiz rampage with a logo colour quiz, followed by the MLB, the NHL, the NBA, the NFL and the MLS. Then came the Premier League, the Scottish Premiership and the EFL Championship (in two parts).

This then brings me to my latest quiz: Color The Simpsons. It's a rather simple one, with only 21 answers, and, as I mentioned before, The Simpsons holds no place of great significance in my heart. But I loved looking at a promotional still and rendering it digitally (I am, after all, an illustrator). I find this quiz especially satisfying as the characters take their well-known forms (well-known even to me by virtue of their ubiquity in English-speaking culture) through colour.

I am not sure if this latest quiz will gain any traction (all of my previous SVG colour quizzes have seemed to generate very little interest). I don't see myself investing the time to take things to overtired's exquisite levels (I mean, this is a thing of beauty!), but growing more confident in adapting SVGs to do new and unusual things has been great.
