New York City Vs London (My Own Opinions) 9 things to know

+1

New York and London are two world-famous cities that have been competing for years. For what, you may ask? Visitors, better daily life, the attractions, the FOOD, and way more. Which one is for you?? Hopefully, you can find out after this blog post. PS: I have been to both of these cities, and these facts are my opinions, so please take whatever I say with a grain of salt.

1. Transportation

New York: Subways are one of the most common transportation in New York. A subway will straight-up cost a minimum of $2.75 (Around £1.97). Even though subways are said to be dirty, they're definitely much faster than above-ground transportation, such as cars and buses. However, if you're looking for a more relaxing experience, taxis or Uber are the way to go. If you're stuck between the two, taxis generally cost a little less expensive, while Uber's cost a bit more. 10 miles would cost around $20, (£14.36) Buses in NYC are also extremely relaxing, especially those double-decker ones. If you are on the top, make sure to enjoy the scenery of New York City.

London: It has been said the best transportation in London is the buses. They are also generally less expensive than the bus trips of New York, and they are also pretty cheap with dozens of sightseeing options. In London, they have things called bus fares for £1.55, ($2.16) and a day of bus-only travel cost of a maximum of £4.65 (£6.48). Also in London, we have the London Underground, also known as The Tube. The Tube is very efficient, rapid, and gets people to destinations in a matter of minutes. The inside of the subway is also pretty comfortable, although there have been complaints of the carpeting. I mean c'mon, its carpet. You could also rent a bike in London, which is a pretty enjoyable way of getting around the streets of London. It will cost u a minimum of £2 ($2.79). You can rent bikes in New York too, but as a person who's been to both cities, London wins there. There are also motorbikes, and believe it or not, they only cost £0.30 ($0.42) for 30 minutes!! London has pretty efficient transportation.

Winner: It is pretty much up to you to decide which city has better transportation. If you like getting around by several ways, London is better. However, if you like getting around by just one way, (mostly subways), New York City is better.

2. Food

Btw, I'm just gonna say right now it's an extremely tight race.

New York: They say New York is really famous for pizza (in particular, Manhattan). You also have hot dogs and bagels in a box. And oh my god, I haven't seen more street food vendors in any other city than New York. If you want to have something on the go, New York's vendors are great. New York City also has many fine dining restaurants, many located in downtown. Like any other, fine dining places are extremely fancy. However, for me, there's something special about New York City's fine-dining restaurants. Not that they're over the top (I love that part though), but they're extremely, and I'm saying extremely, spacious. It is also a fact that if you eat at a new restaurant in New York every day (today being the first), then you still wouldn't be done with all the restaurants that city has to offer. Everyone has about 20 feet to eat, which is something. New York also has 64 Michelin-starred restaurants, so enjoy.

London: London also has some very famous foods, such as fish and chips, bangers and mash, a FULL English Breakfast, Sunday Roast, Steak and Kidney Pie (yes, it's a real thing) and more. The street food quality in London was really nice. Oxford Street, London has many street food vendors as well, and in my opinion, they're the best in the city. When it comes to fine dining restaurants, they're pretty crowded, or a bit compact. The food though, that's something else. London has 66 Michelin-starred restaurants, so enjoy.

Winner: Then again, your opinion. However,I'd say New York wins in overall food, because the fine dining restaurants are so spacious, and you have to recognize that. London also has really good food, but the quality

of New York's food is just undeniable.

3. Friendliness

New York: I am extremely sorry, but I have to say this. People in New York just zone out I guess. Everyone feels like they're in their own world. They don't leave the door open for the person behind them, they litter (A LOT). I'm not saying every New Yorker is like this, but its probably what you're going to find in the downtown. However, if you're a visitor, don't be shy to ask a local directions. They will be pretty happy to tell you. Most people, anyway. One big problem though is thugs, pickpocketers, and people of that sort. Try to avoid run down areas in the city, because that's probably where you'd find the most.

London: London is pretty different. Even if it feels like London is more crowded, people are very friendly. Londoners talk to strangers, will respect other people's space, and yes, they will give you the directions if you're a visitor. However, pickpocketing is the biggest problem in London. I did see a few myself, so what I''m going to say is again, avoid the run-down areas. However, don't fool yourself either. They might be innocent. 👀

Winner: I have to choose London, people are just more friendly. Then again, your opinion.

4. Night Life

I'm just going to say this right now, both London and New York have a brilliant nightlife.

New York: Yes, the Big Apple. You must have heard a lot about this city. But, I'm going to say most things happen in the night for this city though. Bars tend to close at around 4:00 am (you heard me right), and reopen at 7:00 am. So there's really no going to sleep here. You can visit many places in New York at night, including Battery Park, One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower), Central Park, and way more. So basically, don't be surprised to see people roaming outside at 3 in the morning.

London: Shockingly, most restaurants and pubs (British way of saying bar) close at only 11 pm! That's way to early, and I think I can speak for everyone there. (This is my experience). So you have to rush to finish whatever you need to, which unfortunately isn't the best experience. There are some exceptions though. For example, mainly only the bigger dance clubs, but there you can search for a spot which will serve you until about 2:00 am.

Winner: New York obviously wins, for obvious reasons.

5. Attractions

The big one you've all been waiting for. They both have many places to go. I can't really choose between the two, so there will be no winner. But pls make your own opinions though.

New York: We have: Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower), Times Square (Pls go here), The Museum of Modern Art, The High Line, and more. All I'm going to say is that there is a big variety, and it's really up to you. The ones I mentioned are the most famous.

London: There is: London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Tower of London, Big Ben, British Museum, Tower of London, Tower Bridge (pls go here), and more. London also has a very big variety of attractions, so it is also up to you to decide,

6. Greenery

This category is involved for both cities, so I'm going to put them in the same one.

New York & London: Both cities have places where you can escape the hustle and bustle. In my opinion: here's the best places.

NEW YORK CITY: LONDON:

1. Battery Park 1. Eal Pie Island

2. Central Park 2. Daunt Books

3. Brooklyn Botanic Garden. 3. Barbican Centre

4. Museum of Modern Art 4. Wapping Old Stairs

Winner: I'd say New York wins in greenery. Don't get me wrong though, most cities have a place to chill and relax though. But New York is a special place.

7. Affordability/How expensive is it?

New York City: The Big Apple is expensive, don't get me wrong. A 5 minute taxi ride? $10. Half a slice of a bagel? $10. But believe it or not, NYC can be done on a budget. I'm going to tell you 6 things you can get for just 10 buck EXACTLY. 1. A ticket to the MET Art Museum ($1.50) (£1.08). 2. Hot Dog ($2.75) (£1.97). 3. Subway Ticket ($2.75) (£1.97) 4. Sponge Cake ($0.75) (£0.54) 5. 6 Dumplings ($1.25) (£ 0.90) 6. Pizza ($1) (£0.72). Enjoy your budgeted trip around the City of New York.

London: London's sterling pound is worth more then America's dollar, so things may end up a wee bit expensive. Some parts are not that expensive, but then again, you can budget yourself by travelling by bikes/walking, not cars, not eating at fancy restuarants, and etc.

Winner: Neither. They're both expensive.

8. Hotels, Where To Stay?

New York & London: Both cities have really cool hotels. There's also actaully a ton of a variety. For example, you can get a hotel on Times Square in New York for not too expensive prices too. But don't let yourself and your family be scammed by other hotels too, because that's possible very likely. In London, the cool thing is you can actually walk from your hotel to wherever you need to go, because everything is close by. Some parts of New York are near each other, but most of the time, you have to drive.

Winner: Tie, I can't choose.

9: Homeless People, traps

New York: New York City has a very big population of homeless people. You can give them money if you want, but don't give them too much. Otherwise, they will most probably try taking advantage of you.

London: London doesn't have this problem, mostly because people who live in downtown London are pretty rich.

I hope you all enjoy this article, and I hope you can get a sense of the two cities. Both are pretty good for vacationing in. However, the city you like the most? I'll leave it up to you to decide.
