Egypt
The Word "Egypt" is divered from Ancient Greek Title "Aígyptos" which was given to their legendary King. Some People thought that it is An Arabic word "Qubti". Qubti was the tribe of Pharaohs of Egypt. The Modern Official Name of Egypt (Arabic) is "Misr" Which is Given By Quran to Egypt.
Brazil
Federative Republic of Brazil got its name from tree called "Pau-Brasil" which is popular in coastal forests of Amazon. It is also known BrazilWood and is National Tree of Brazil. Pau-Brasil was used to dying clothes and was highly valued by the European textile industry and was the earliest commercially exploited product from Brazil.
Comoros
Comoros is divered from Arabic Word "Juzur-Al-Qamar" or "Jazair-Ul-Qamar" which means Islands of Moon. This Name was given to this archipelago by Arab Sailors.
Dominica
Previous countries that I mentioned in my blog were divered from an another language or named after thing but you might be surprised to know that Dominica is named after a day "Sunday".
But why? Because Christopher Columbus first came to this island on Sunday.
Ecuador
Ecuador is named after Equator because equator runs through northern part of country. Ecuador means Equator in Spanish.
Moldova
Moldova is named after Moldova River but how the name of Moldova River is formed?
According to some Folk Tales, the favourite hunting dog of Transylvanian prince, "Molda" drown in its water. After Molda, Moldova River got its name. And after Moldova River, Moldova got its name.
Eritrea
Eritrea, which borders Red Sea got its name from Red Sea. The Ancient Greeks gave the sea its name "Erythre Thalassa. The Romans borrowed the Greek term and called it Mare Erythreum. Their descendents, the Italians, who occupied the region in 1935, Italianized “Erythreum” to “Eritrea,” and applied it to the country.
Malta
Malta got its name form Greek word "méli" which means honey. Posibally, because this island was famous for its Honey. It might also derive from the Phoenician word “maleth,” meaning refuge.
