Top 5 Best-Known Countries on Jetpunk

+1

It's interesting to see which countries are best-known on Jetpunk. There are some obvious answers like the USA, China and such, but are there surprises? As the the quiz "Countries of the World" has many versions in different languages, it's interesting to see whether the same nations are well known in the different countries. In this blog we'll take a look at the top 5 best known countries for some language versions of the quiz.

Countries of the World - English

Top 5

1. United States (97%)

2. Canada (96%)

3. Russia (96%)

4. Mexico (95%)

5. China (95%)

As expected, the United States top the list of the English version of the quiz. Bordering nations Canada and Mexico also feature in the top 5. Russia and China are obviously both big countries and are no surprises. Talking about (small) surprises, the United Kingdom is joined 6th on the list with 4 other countries (Brazil, Italy, France and Australia). The least known countries are Palau (23%), Nauru (22%) and São Tomé and Príncipe (22%).

Países del Mundo - Spanish

Top 5

1. Mexico (96%)

2. United States (96%)

3. Argentina (95%)

4. Brazil (95%)

5. Canada & Spain (95%)

No real jaw-dropping facts here, all of them are well known countries. Mexico, as Spanish speaking country tops the list, together with the United States. Maybe you could have expected that Spain would top the list as that's where this quiz' language comes from. The least known countries are São Tomé and Príncipe (21%), East Timor (20%) and Nauru (19%).

Pays du monde - French

Top 5

1. France (98%)

2. Canada (96%)

3. Italy (96%)

4. Russia (96%)

5. United States & China & Spain (95%)

As quite expected France is first on this list and it is by a landslide. 98% of the people that took the quiz in French knew the country of France. Canada also scores really high, which isn't odd considering their French speaking parts. Italy, bordering France, also does really well. Russia, USA and China are the usual suspects. Spain, also bordering France is represented in the French Top 5 aswell. The least known countries are Kiribati (15%), Nauru (14%) and Palau (14%).

Paesi del Mondo - Italian

Top 5

1. Italy (96%)

2. Canada (95%)

3. Russia (95%)

4. United States (95%)

5. France (94%)

Italy is the best-known country in the Italian version of the quiz. Italy doesn't have to deal with big Italian speaking countries other than themselves, like Spain has with Mexico and other countries in Central and South America. Canada, Russia and the USA are in the Top 5 aswell. France completes the list, as bordering nation. The least known countries are Nauru (23%), Grenada (22%) and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (22%).

Länder der Welt Quiz - German

Top 5

1. Germany (96%)

2. United States (95%)

3. Canada (94%)

4. France (94%)

5. Russia (94%)

Germany is the best known country in German version of the quiz. Surprisingly, (partly) Germany-speaking countries as Austria (18th) and Switzerland (16th) score relatively low, being behind less known countries as Sweden and Finland. The rest of the list is complemented by the usual suspects, including bordering country France. The least known countries are Grenada (32%), Nauru (31%) and Solomon Islands (31%).

Países do Mundo - Portuguese

Top 5

1. Brazil (97%)

2. United States (96%)

3. Argentina (95%)

4. Canada (95%)

5. Mexico (95%)

Now, this is, in my opinion, the biggest surprise yet. Portugal does not make the Top 5 of the Portuguese version of the quiz. It must be places 6th then, right? Nope. Portugal is 13th, behind countries like Japan and Chile. Last named country is actually located in the 6th spot. With Argentina already being in 3rd, it's safe to say that most people taking the Portuguese version are probably from Brazil. Uruguay (90%) and Paraguay (89%) are doing well too. The Portuguese and Spanish versions are the only ones to not have Russia in the Top 5 so far. The least known countries are Saint Kitts and Nevis (19%), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (19%) and Nauru (18%).

Landen van de Wereld - Dutch

Top 5

1. Netherlands (95%)

2. Belgium (93%)

3. Canada (93%)

4. China (93%)

5. France & Germany & Italy & Russia & Spain (93%)

The best-known country, by far, is the Netherlands, which was expected of course. Belgium, which is partly Dutch-spoken, is scoring high aswell. A lot of countries score the same on this version, 93%. Not wanting to leave any of those out, they are gathered at place 5. But in reality, Belgium scored roughly the same as Spain. When looking at these countries, there is a big one missing, the United States didn't make the list. The USA scored a joint 11th place with Mexico, both scoring 91%. The least known countries are Nauru (14%), São Tomé and Príncipe (14%) and Solomon Islands (12%).

Страны мира - Russian

Top 5

1. Russia (93%)

2. Canada (89%)

3. United States (84%)

4. India (80%)

5. Italy (80%)

Obviously, in the Russian version, Russia scores best with 93%. But it's interesting to see how low the other countries score and how big the gaps are. Canada gets 2nd place with only 89%, while the United States get 3rd with 5% less. This is the first time India makes a top 5 and it does so with only 80%, Italy makes it a top 5. The least known countries are interesting aswell, as they are Saint Kitts and Nevis (20%), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (18%) and Saint Lucia (17%).

世界の国々- Japanese

Top 5

1. Japan (93%)

2. United States (82%)

3. Canada (81%)

4. China (77%)

5. France (76%)

Japan is the best-known country in the Japanese version of the Countries of the World quiz. Just like in the Russian version, the other countries score very low. United States is second best-known, followed by Canada, China and France. India is 6th, with only 70% of the people typing it in. Interesting are the least known countries, as two of them weren't in the 3 least known countries yet; São Tomé and Príncipe (20%), Equatorial Guinea (20%) and Benin (20%).

Dünya Ülkeleri - Turkish

Top 5

1. Canada (92%)

2. Turkey (90%)

3. United States (87%)

4. Iran (85%)

5. Iraq (83%)

I don't know what is more surprising. 10% of the people forgot Turkey in the Turkish version of the quiz or the fact that Canada is guessed more. United States takes the third spot, while surprisingly Iran and Iraq complement the Top 5. Reasons for that may be geographical, as they are close to Turkey. The least known countries are very interesting once again; Marshall Islands (27%), Seychelles (27%) and Cape Verde (23%).

Världens länder - Swedish

Top 5

1. Sweden (93%)

2. United States(92%)

3. Finland (92%)

4. Norway (92%)

5. Canada (90%)

The Top 5 in the Swedish version are pretty straight forward. Sweden tops it with 93%, Finland and Norway, bordering countries, are in it aswell. Canada and United States make the list too, as the usual suspects. Another Scandinavian country just missed out, with Denmark being on the 6th spot. The least known countries are Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (20%), Solomon Islands(19%) and Comoros (17%).

Countries of the World Quiz - Afrikaans

Top 5

1. Australia (68%)

2. Brazil (65%)

3. Canada (63%)

4. Netherlands (60%)

5. Peru (60%)

The Top 5 in the Afrikaans Version is remarkable to say the least. Australia somehow tops the list, with Brazil being in second. Canada is one of the usual suspects, but we can't say that about 4th and 5th. A theory for the Netherlands being in 4th may be that Dutch people try the quiz in Afrikaans, has the language is derived from Dutch. However, Peru being in 5th is less logical, you can leave comments about your theory in a comment. The least known countries are quite surprising too, them being Serbia (9%), Moldova (8%) and Kyrgyzstan (5%).

전세계의 나라들 - Korean

Top 5

1. United States (98%)

2. China (87%)

3. Japan (87%)

4. South Korea (87%)

5. Canada & Russia & United Kingdom (85%)

Quite some interesting facts here aswell. Firstly, the 98% score of the United States, remarkably high. Secondly, South Korea being only joint second with 13% of the people missing out on the country. And thirdly, North Korea not making the Top 5, they are in 14th with only 76% being able to guess the country. The least known countries are São Tomé and Príncipe (17%) and surprisingly Croatia (13%) and Sierra Leone (13%).

Negara-Negara di Dunia - Indonesian

Top 5

1. Indonesia (89%)

2. Malaysia (87%)

3. India (81%)

4. Russia (81%)

5. Thailand (79%)

The countries in the Indonesian Top 5 seem based on the location of those countries, as most are quite close to Indonesia. Indonesia itself tops the list, having bordering country Malaysia in second place. This is the first time that both Canada and the United States miss out in the Top 5. The least known countries are São Tomé and Príncipe (14%), Seychelles (14%) and Equatorial Guinea (12%).

Χώρες του Κόσμου-Ελληνικά - Greek

Top 5

1. Greece (92%)

2. Mexico (86%)

3. France (85%)

4. Italy (84%)

5. Germany (83%)

Greece is the best-known country in the Greek edition, with some other European countries complementing the list, except for Mexico, which really is the odd one out. For this one also, I have no real theory behind the fact that Mexico is 2nd, so if people have suggestions, I'm intrigued to know. The least known countries are Saint Kitts and Nevis (26%), Equatorial Guinea (21%) and São Tomé and Príncipe (20%).

বিশ্বের সমস্ত রাষ্ট্রের নাম ক্যুইজ - Bengali

Top 5

1. India (61%)

2. Bangladesh (44%)

3. Canada (44%)

4. China (44%)

5. Italy & Japan & Mexico & United States (39%)

In the Bengali-version, the scores are a little lower than in the versions above. India is the most typed-in country with 61% of the people guessing it. Bengali-speaking Bangladesh comes in joint second, with Canada and China. The third spot is reserved for four countries, including the United States, only 39% of the people taking the quiz guessed these countries. It's hard to tell which countries are least known, as 24 countries have been guessed only by 6% of the people. Alphabetically Tonga, Uganda and Vatican City are last, but we don't know the real last places.

Short summary

Editions Above Combined Top 5

1. Canada (14 times)

2. United States (12 times)

3. Russia (8 times)

4. France & Italy & China (6 times)

5. Mexico (5 times)

The best known country based on the amount of times it featured in the Top 5, in at least the editions I've chosen to show, is Canada. This is quite surprising to me. Maybe if all percentages are added up you get a different result. Canada is closely followed by the United States. Russia, France, China, Italy and Mexico are also scoring really well across the different editions of the quiz. Notable is the fact that the United Kingdom was present just in one Top 5, in which they were joint 5th.

When it comes to the least known countries, it's usually a caribbean country, like one of the countries starting with 'Saint'. Also some countries in Oceania seem to feature more than once, like Nauru, Palau, Solomon Islands etc. Two African countries were also named quite some times, being Equatorial Guinea and São Tomé and Príncipe. To be honest, for me, this was expected.

Looks like India isn't a popular country in Jetpunk😅😅😅

Would you consider adding Bengali and hindi ?

I know these languages are not at all popular in Jetpunk but considering it's number of global speakers you might can. Not to mention both the languages are also poor despite it's such a large speaking population

Sure, consider it done! Edit: The Hindi version only shows India on 100% for me and the rest of the countries being 0%, so that one can't be added. Bengali is added!

Wow this was quite interesting! I think it could be made extra-superior by adding the average scores for all the languages too

Thank you! In what way would you like an average score? As in, a % of all countries combined within one language quiz?
