Quiz Creation Challenge #02: The Dog Days of Summer

For those who haven't heard of the QCC (Quiz Creation Challenge) before, it's a fairly simple concept. I give you a topic, then you need to make a quiz that relates to said topic. After a week or so, I'll write a review about some of my favourites and put it on my JetPunk blog for all to see. If you need a more in-depth explanation, check out the top half of this post. One thing that I didn't mention in there is that the quiz you submit has to be created for the challenge. It wasn't very many but there were a couple submissions that already existed before I even thought of the QCC, and I just wanted to clear that up to anybody participating this time around. Not really much of a creation challenge if no one's even creating anything :-)

So with that out of the way, the topic this time around is: Animals! This can include quizzes about animals found in the real world or entirely fictional ones. You're also able to make quizzes about people and locations that have a close association with animals (like zoologists, or a pet store). For those who choose to participate, it is SUPER IMPORTANT that you include #QCCAnimal somewhere in the title of your quiz. Additionally you can put the URL of your quiz in the comments of this post. This is so I can actually find your submission without too much hassle.

The deadline for this challenge is one week from me submitting this post. That's a little shorter than the last challenge's two week deadline, but that's mostly because mostly everybody submitted their quizzes within the first couple days and I don't really see a point to all that wasted time. After that I will pick my favourites, write a little review of them and attach it to end of this post. There is no prize for being the 'best' aside from a nomination, but I hope you will participate in the challenge regardless.

Random Animals by Picture by GeoPhilia

My favourite thing about this quiz is it’s simplicity. It stands out to me just because it fills a gap in quizzes that JetPunk was surprisingly lacking. I mean, you have to guess what animal is in the picture… but the pictures are randomized. It’s nothing revolutionary, but it’s clean presentation and execution makes this one of my favourites. While it may not look like much work went into this quiz from the quiztaking side of things, I don’t even want to begin thinking about how long it took to get all the pictures… ugh.

Overall, I really enjoyed this quiz! Super straightforward, but super replayable. Nice job :>

Animal Superlatives by NINJAQKk

I like this quiz. I like it a lot. I don’t know what to say about it that isn’t just retreading old ground though. It’s a simple concept that was executed very well, I like the picture, and none of the categories feel too odd or obscure. Everything in this quiz feels like it matters. But according to the comments, you put the incorrect answer for one of the categories so… fact-check your answers I guess? I don’t think that there is really much to say here other than it was a really solid quiz. Good work overall :)

Animal Island by Raz07

Animal Island is an SVG quiz, and this gives it a leg up on a lot of the other quizzes straight from the get go. Quizmaster actually said SVG quizzes tend to be some of the ones he prefers to feature, and I can’t say I disagree with him. This quiz has you trying to guess animals based on their silhouettes. Maybe it’s not the most imaginative use of SVG, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it. The animals chosen all have easily recognizable shapes, but this is prioritized over theming so the selection can seem odd at a glance. What business do an elephant, horse, and butterfly have on an island together? Perhaps there are some secrets the world wasn’t meant to know...

Speaking of elephants I should probably address the one in the room: why did the results take so long? I just didn't have the motivation to get up and make them. I really wanted to, and so many times I was like "yeah, let's finish the results!" and that would amount to basically nothing. This isn't the first time this has happened in my Jetpunk career, and it likely won't be the last. The silver lining here is that after these points of having no motivation whatsoever I do eventually regain it. It comes and goes in waves. I will be motivated to be punctual with the results. Eventually. Maybe this is the start of it? Hopefully it is, I do have another one of these that just finished up. Would be nice to get those results finished.

I'd also like to give a big thank-you to all those that asked when the results would be uploaded! And you should, too. Without them, I may have taken even longer to write the results. So even if you may or may not have won, thanks for putting me in the hot seat for so long.
