I felt like it is worth noting that Cincinnati has technically a larger metropolitan area, it's just that it's not all within the state of Ohio (it extends into Kentucky & Indiana), so that leaves Columbus as the biggest metro area entirely in Ohio.

probably that urban areas in citypopulation.de for the United States is called combined metropolitan areas. You probably clicked on the wrong type of projection, or if you didn't use citypopulation.de, that is how he found it.

citypopulation.de United States CSA's. The "urban area" page for the US is closer to metropolitan area (which sucks in my opinion).
