Something more practical than removing Russia quizzes from Jetpunk

Next steps for Ukraine

Thanks for all your feedback to my decision to remove Russia-related quizzes from this website.  Several of your responses were along the lines of "Big deal, Vladimir Putin will be really affected by this".  Fair question, so I've got looking around for more practical ways I can help.

Tonight I was inspired watching this item on a local current affairs TV programme Thank You, Sid - YouTube, and from watching that I've offered to help a family evacuate from Ukraine.

Do you know about Odessa clashes, war in donbas or phrase "moskals to the gallows"?

Why did they needed demeans "thanks to the residents donbass for president.... ", "Russians are slaves", "Russians eat hedgehogs".

I am against war in Ukraine because every war is sea of blood and deathes of people, but not to say that all these eight years (and maybe more) The Ukrainian government was far from being a white and fluffy "victim of the aggressor", so it means seriously lying.

most people know Ukraine as a "victim" or "whipping boy" and they don't know what the reality is. I met Ukrainians on the Internet, and many openly humiliated Russians, and one proved to me that fascism is the best ideology.

But in fairness, we can add that some Russians are very arrogant towards Ukrainians, but at least they are sitting on pro-Russian channels. Ukrainians, on the other hand, wish us to break up everywhere as soon as possible.

So, Ukrainians have no less dirty secrets than we do.

I totally agree with you. Many people are thinking that the entirety of Russia is to blame for the war in Ukraine but in reality, many of them are just against the war and it's just Putin. In the UK, many people are taking this too far as quite recently, a group of people not in their right mind ransacked a Russian Orthodox Church in Oxford, even though that's nothing to do with the war.

It's very interesting to see the opinion of the war from the perspective of a Russian citizen :)

Depending exactly which russian citizen, Some people unfortunately believed the propaganda and some people are protesting. I live in Moscow myself and I gotta say I have known many people with relatives there. And fo course the youth? Many of them don't take the war very seriously... My classmate even wrote Z in the board and graffiti it everywhere....

So Ukrainians "humiliating" Russians is just as bad as Russian bombing Ukrainian women and children? I understand that many Russians are against Putin's deranged war, and feel powerless to do anything, and no one should be ransacking a church that doesn't have anything to do with the war, but if Russians submit to Putin's evil control and allow their citizens to wage war on the defenseless they are complicit in war crimes. This is a complicated situation, so I apologize if this is an oversimplified response.

my comment is just that Ukrainians (at least the government and the military) are not sinless, and there is no less blood on their hands than on the hands of the Russian government. Maybe you will say that before the invasion of Russia it was an "internal conflict", but during its time people died, and the whole world turned a blind eye to it. Although you can argue with this, saying that the Ukrainians fought with the separatists, so we do not take this into account.

But then I can remind you of a bloody event that was not covered too much in Western countries, namely the confrontation in Odessa in 2014. Then pro-Russian activists went to a rally against the new (pro-American) government. In response, nationalists came out, a confrontation began between the protesters, and as a result, the pro-Russian protesters hid from the pro-American ones in the house of culture. Pro-American protesters set fire to the House of culture, and 42 hiding burned down.

Censoring Russia is just Anti-Russia, and less Anti-Actions of Russia. We aren't removing Russia from COTW right? What good would that do expect misleading?

This action is not anti-Russia. It is anti Russia's despicable behaviour in invading and occupying a neighbour for no reason except to feed Putin's mad ideas. The removed Russian-language quizzes remain stored out of sight, ready to be re-posted when Russia ceases its brutality against a neighbouring country that does not deserve to be treated like this.

What is the point of this? Removing quizzes related to a country because of politics is just wrong. JetPunk should be accessible to everyone interested in geography and have a wide range of quizzes.

First of all, life is about much more than quizzes. They are fun to write and fun to do, but you and I live in a place where we can enjoy doing that without wondering whether a missile is going to crash into my home or my city and kill me or my friends.

So what is really important to me? It is, first of all, about the right of everyone, everywhere, to live a peaceful life. I will do what I can where I can to do things that support that goal, and the removal of Russian-language quizzes is my one Jetpunk-related way I can act. There are many more useful practical ways to help though, and I will support whatever efforts you make to support innocent families and children whose only misfortune has been to be born into the "wrong" place.

This is cool and you are a respectable person.

Also careful with the politics everyone, Quizmaster really doesn't like them.

Why did you change your name from Jerry 928? I'm just curious.
