This blog post is a platform for people to argue about where Cyprus is, Asia or Europe. I'll say it's in Asia, along with 50% of other JetPunk users. Happy (or not) debating!

The answer is:

Asia

Cyprus is located on the Asian continent, but its culture and history are mainly European, due to its colonization of Greeks and Turks (part of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus).

Must agree with MG17. Cyprus is part of the EU, and widely speaks Greek, but it's quite obvious that Cyprus is located in Asia, and therefore I think it is in Asia.

Quite right, MG17. Good to see you're on the Asia Cyprus side. The Cyprus culture is on the european side, but it's located in Asia. :)

Asia and Europe are actually one continent. The reason the boundary is so hard to understand and decide is because there is not one. All the way from Indochina to Kamchatka to the Middle East to Iberia is part of the same vast continent.

I used to think Cyprus was in Europe, but a couple weeks ago i realised that it is actually in Asia.

Geographically I think it’s in Asia but politically, it might be Europe because it’s in the EU

@ChineseChen it can't be in Europe, organisations aren't bound to geographical locations; that's like saying Switzerland isn't in Europe since it isn't in the EU, and Israel is in Europe because it's part of the European Football League

I think Cyprus should be considered in the Middle East. It’s hard to find a distinct border between Europe and Asia.

The border follows the Ural Mountains, Caucasus Mountains, then just off the south coast of the Black Sea, through the Bosporus and Dardanelles, then cuts across the Mediterranean Sea to include Crete and Malta, then through the Strait of Gibraltar between Spain and Morocco.

The closest part of Cyprus to Europe is actually further away than the closet part of the island to the African continent.

So Europe is 3rd in line to claining Cyprus....

Culturally European, geographically Asian. But Europe and Asia are mainly seperated culturally, so putting it in Europe makes more sense. But in the end, continents are just arbitrary regions created by humans and it doesn't matter.

Hear me out: I agree with MG17's comment earlier about how Cyprus is culturally European, but geographically Asian.

But the entire border between Europe and Asia is based on cultural, linguistic, and ethnic divides, by that logic, Cyprus should then be European, because we are completely forgetting geography in that scenario.

So you could interpret it either way.

Cyprus became a full member of the European Union in 2004. Despite being a divided country, the entire island is EU territory. Turkish Cypriots who have, or are eligible for, EU travel documents are EU citizens.

So basically, I Think Cyprus Is In Europe.
