Awesome blog! Hope you remember me from the American Pie blog. The '70s have to be my favorite decade of music too. I don't think any other decade really offers the same variety and passion for music. I see quite a few of my favorite songs here: Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia, Let It Be, Baba O'Riley (I've developed a bit of an obsession the past few months), American Pie, Me and Julio (Paul Simon's probably my favorite songwriter ever), Piano Man, Dancing in the Moonlight, Superstition, Come and Get Your Love, Evil Woman... and basically everything by Elton John and Queen--I'm a huge sucker for both. There are plenty of songs on here that I've also been meaning to listen to, as well as some I've never heard but I'm now interested in trying. I'm sure I'll be coming back to this list a lot in the future, so thanks! And I'm looking forward to seeing what you have for 1976-1979 as well :)

Each decade offers a wide variety and passion for music, at least since the 60s till now (of which I know). Now, perhaps more than ever. It just doesn't reach "public distribution" as much and you have to have patience and good work ethics to shuffle through all the ... let the word remain unsaid.

The unholy trinity of Universal - Sony - Warner rule some closing in on 90% of all world's music being produced and promoted. That brings the major public channels in a very sad state. And, most people are simply too distracted or too lazy to go find the musical jewels par excellence.

Thank you for the encouraging response. I was talking to my nephew about 70s music, so I decided to post it early, but I have a lot left for the rest of the decade. There was so much going on back then; Motown, Stax, all of the former Beatles were making music, southern rock, ELO, Ramones, Billy Joel, Aretha, Ray Charles, Beach Boys, Bowie, Santana, Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, the Stones, the Who, the Kinks, Zep, Steely Dan, etc, etc

My goodness! No Billy Ocean?! Or are we tipping in to the 80s now?...

I don't remember hearing Billy Ocean until Caribbean Queen in the mid-80s, though I see now that he was recording earlier; perhaps his earlier music didn't do as well on this side of the pond? I'll have to check out his early stuff--thanks for the suggestion.

Okay, I just listened to the songs from Billy's debut album from 1976. The only song there that got to me was Love Really Hurts Without You. Maybe some of the others may grow on me? Anyway, thanks for reading and responding. Happy listening

Rainbow, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, ...and also these had some good one's: The Clash, Iggy Pop, Judas Priest, The Damned, Frank Zappa, Madness, Buzzcocks, XTC, Squeeze... that I can quickly think of.

Thank you for your suggestions. I like XTC and Squeeze quite a bit, though I think of them more as 80s groups (I know they existed earlier, but they took a while to make it to the American Midwest). The Clash and Madness we're similarly later to the States (though London Calling was a 1979 UK release It came out in 1980 across the pond).

The 60s "Michael-Row-the-Boat-Ashore" Highwaymen, or the 80s "Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson" Highwaymen?
