Movie Thursday 3: Musicals
This week both features are famous musical films, the first being an older classic and the main feature being a more recent musical hit. Hope you enjoy!
1st Feature:
Grease
This famous 70s movie is based on the musical of the same name from early in the decade. The movie follows the dramatic high school lives of a "greaser" and "good girl" whose summer fling gets a second chance when they discover they attend the same school.

Review
This movie is one of the top-grossing films of the 1970s, with a 75% rating by Rotten Tomatoes. Its Metacritic score is 70 out of 100.
I've always enjoyed watching this movie and am a big fan of the songs (perhaps because of the nostalgia it brings me?). I had first seen Grease as an amateur musical production, so seeing it "on the screen" instead of on a stage made the experience more special. I personally think the transition to the screen is favorable. That is, the movie can stand on its own.
I give it a 3 out of 5 star rating.
Main Feature:
The Greatest Showman
According to IMDB, this movie "celebrates the birth of a show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation." Normally I would provide my own description of the movie here, but if you read in the review below, you'll see why that isn't the case here.

Review
Despite all the love from this movie's large fan-base, I was surprised to discover that its approval wasn't as high as I would have expected, with a 57% approval by Rotten Tomatoes and 48 out of 100 by Metacritic.
I had every intention of watching and rating this movie by Thursday, but because of my busy schedule with school starting back up, I was unable to find time to watch it.
Stay tuned because my rating is coming...eventually...
Have any of you seen either of these films?
