New Quiz Editor

+1

If you create a new quiz, you might notice that things look different.

We've made some pretty substantial changes to the quiz editor. Most of the changes happened behind the scenes, but here are a few of the new features:

  • You can now add a thumbnail image to a user quiz.
  • "Automatic" type-ins. By default, JetPunk recommended type-ins will be applied. This will improve a lot of the quizzes produced by inexperienced quizmakers.
  • Answer sorting.
  • Answer re-ordering. Re-ordering answers will no longer cause the quiz to be reset.

If you edit an old quiz, you might still get the old format for now. In the next few days, all the quizzes will be converted to the new format.

There will be bugs. Let me know if you find any!

The update I‘ve been waiting for! I simply love your work Dan! The site is getting better every day. (Plus, I absolutely love thumbnails! It‘ll be a lot of fun going through 1,000 quizzes adding a picture). Unbelievable, wow!

I don‘t know if you consider it a bug, but when you use the < BR > command in an answer cell, you can already see that this cell is going to be bigger than usual. But it‘s definitely a bug that the "Let me know" link leads to Error 404: File Not Found (:

I like the new type-in features. One thing I would like to see--and I have no idea how difficult it would be to implement--is an easy way to do type-ins for questions that have multiple possible answers. Even though there are default type-ins for "Germany" and "Hungary," there is no default type-in for "Germany and Hungary," or "Germany, Hungary," etc., and you have to type it in manually, which can be a bit of a pain if one or both of the answers involves a complex regex.

Use Germany / Hungary, that works

Don't know if this is a bug or just my failure to understand instructions, but I can't get the reordering answers function to work in the new editor. I click and hold on a row, and the row turns pink, but then I can't move it anywhere.

Not sure. It works for me in all browsers, and I even just tested it in IE. When the row turns pink, keep the mouse button down, and then drag over a different row. That row will turn blue, which means you can drop the pink row there.

Automatic type-ins produces some interesting results. I had the answer "machines," which it apparently interpreted as "MacHines," because it was suggesting I should also accept "McHines."

Reordering answers doesn’t work too well on mobile. It just selects the text.

This is really inconvient, especially considering the old editor worked just fine. I’d really like to see this fixed.

I'm not sure it can be fixed. The quiz editor was never intended to work on mobile.

Agree...the reordering doesn't seem to work on iPad.

Also, how does one customize the type-ins now? Can't seem to find it...

Made a quiz called 'Countdown Words #1', but the default type-in won't permit the certain answers to display properly. For example, typing 'Parliament', fills in 'Par' and 'P', but 'Parliament' itself won't appear until after the third try. Have tried to fix with different settings, but doesn't seem to resolve it.

Have to go with Insaniot. The editor worked great on mobile until the change...

I haven't really uploaded a quiz since like March, but since then, the format has been drastically improved! I was wondering how the front page quizzes had these bullet points, and now I can make them myself. The quizzes are more organized, well thought out, and visually appealing.

I'm trying to add a thumbnail to my new quiz. I cut and pasted the URL from Wikimedia but I keep getting a "Can't parse URL" message. What am I doing wrong? (Thanks for all you do, Dan.) I'm trying to remember to click on more ads to repay you.

I think the thumbnail URL has to begin with https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File: and refer to a single image e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GodfreyKneller-IsaacNewton-1689.jpg to be accepted.

Whole category addresses (e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/John_F._Kennedy) or anything that isn't from commons.wikimedia.org or commons.m.wikimedia.org (e.g. upload.wikimedia.org) will fail to parse. HTH

You can't have two answer columns. However, you can simulate that by doing the following:

In Step 2: Make a separate row for each answer

In Step 4: Choose manual mode. You can add/remove cells and put answers wherever you want on the grid. So you can put two answers in the same column here.

Best,
