Many American cities saw a decline in population following 1950 as residents moved to the suburbs. Some cities have rebounded. Others have not. Here are a few of the cities whose populations have declined most dramatically.

you're right about that. I mean between 1910 and 1920 Detroit's population more than doubled! That is just insane and even in 1950 it had a population of 1.8 million - On par with the modern-day city of Phoenix. I guess that the curse of the rust belt struck Detroit after 1950 lol. :(

What happened to Detroit, though? I've always heard of its infamous population rise and fall, but I haven't been told of the reasons behind it.

America deindustrialized, and factory jobs disappeared. Detroit, along with the rest of the rust belt, was heavily reliant on that industry so that's why people left.
