RIP Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

+15

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away today.

It is with great sadness that I am writing this blog.

I know this is a US based site, but the majority of us in the UK have never known a time without the Queen.

She has been a stable figure in a world that has changed immeasureably since her coronation in 1953. Almost every aspect of daily life is now different.

In all my (almost)60 years, she has been there as head of our country and others worldwide.

She has served the people of many nations in many ways.

She was probably the most recognisable woman there has ever been. You could show a picture anywhere and people would know who it was.

The country and indeed the world will now enter a period of mourning until her state funeral in ten to twelve days.

May she rest in peace forever.

Rest in Peace ma'am
It just remains to say
"The Queen is dead, Long Live the King"

No matter the meme, but God save the Queen. It's weird how this happened right after Liz Truss become prime minister, and right after she "homage" Brazil on the Independence Day (yesterday). It's everything happening really fast, and she won't be missed. RIP.

Also, I've been reading about this London Bridge Operation that would happen after Elizabeth's death. Does something similar happens to all the kings/queens in the UK? Will that be the case with Charles?

Yes there is always an "operation" or a series of events arranged for the death of each monarch. Within hours a similar schedule will be in place for King Charles 3. These rules with cover every aspect and eventuality.

I was in Glasgow as this happened and I would have not known without my Mexican friend sending semi-cryptic messages about it. I don't know whether people just didn't care or held their mourning inside. They couldn't have all been Celtic fans. Shortly thereafter, in York, the military fired a cannon for each of the queens years and in front of a happy eager crowd, who battled to film the event. Meanwhile, BBC was making it seem like the sky had fallen and everyone was in agony. Somewhat confusing and I don't really know what this meant to the British people in general.

Anyway, RIP.

You summed up the British way of life exactly in two words...."Somewhat confusing".

In regard to the monarchy, put simply, the British fall into three distinct groups.

Group 1.....We hate the monarchy and everything it stands for and can't wait for the UK to be a republic.

Group 2.....The Royal Family cannot do any wrong and should be defended as such.

Group 3.(The majority)....The Royals are OK but if they went it wouldnt matter too much, life would go on. What has Prince Andrew done now and can we joke about it.

Just look up "Spitting Image" on Youtube. Its a satirical TV programme using puppets from the 80's. Nothing is sacred and anything is fair game for being ripped apart. Thats how most Brits view the monarchy and for that matter the government as well.

Regarding the BBC, I think the people in charge still think we all sit down for tea and cakes at 3 in the afternoon and all wear bowler hats.

Thanks for the reply.

I've heard of "Spitting Image". I guess now I'll have to, actually, look it up.
