the name of that painting is Arrangement in Grey and Black; it's not actually called "Whistler's Mother"

I put "Portrait in Black and Gray". I knew it is commonly known as "Whistler's Mother" but I didn't want to put that except as a last resort. Couldn't remember "arrangement"

It is actually Portrait of the Artist's Mother by Thomas Whistler. Commonly known as Whistler's Mother.

Negative. The REAL title of the painting is "Arrangement in Grey and Black No.1" However, typing in "Whistler" should be all that's needed to get the right answer.

BuckDonk is right; "Whistler's Mother" is not the name of the painting. If you disagree, take it up with my art history professor.

But it doesn't matter at all for this quiz because if you start typing Whistler's Mother you'll correctly guess the artist's last name :)

totally loved this! If I didn't know the artist by name, I could tell the century and country...surprised myself, but I've been studying history and it paid off. Looking up some names, I got lost in all the art...spent the whole evening looking at new (to me) art by old artists and new (to me) artists...Thank you!

I freely admit to not being a culture vulture, but that was TOUGH. I think I knew two, and guessed three. There was one other I recognised but didn't know the painter or the name of the picture. Looking at the ansers there are a lot of paintings that I have never heard of before and four of the artists (5,11,13,16) were totally new to me.
