I agree as well. This question needs to be changed, as it is describing God in an inaccurate manor.

You still understood it though, right? Good enough. It's not up to the quizmaster to dwell on issues of theology.

I don't think the phrasing of the question about Job was correct. God didn't torment Job. Better phrasing may be: "God allowed Satan to torment him, but his faith proved strong and his life was ultimately restored" shorter version: "God allowed Satan to torment him, but his life was restored."

I agree. Satan tormented Job, trying to break his faith. God allowed it, but then rewarded Job for his faith by restoring everything and giving him 10 times more than he previously had.

Agree with the above................

Technically, Jonah wasn't swallowed by a whale. The Bible states he was swallowed by a large fish; whales are mammals.

I'm going to leave the question as is. The book of Job is very interesting from a theological perspective.

a) Satan tormented Job, but he had God's permission. God was therefore ultimately responsible for Job's torment

b) Job's children were killed. How can this be repaid 10 times more?

It is difficult to accept that much of the Old Testament is very much counter to our conceptions of Christianity.

Eh. not really. You have to endure suffering to enter the kingdom of God. God allows suffering but Satan causes it. This wording of the question, not quite right.

I have no issue with the wording of the clue. I do, however, have issue with your justifications.

WARNING: Theological musings below, proceed at own risk :)

a) Just because God would allow one of His children to be tried/tested/tempted (you know, part of the purpose of coming to earth in the first place...) does not mean that He caused the trial/test/temptation etc. Otherwise, we could say that the framers of the constitution are accessory to murder for establishing the second amendment.

b) It was 2-fold, not 10-fold (see Job 42:10). A belief in the eternal nature of family bears this out, as he had an additional ten children, making 20 in all. Still, though, sucks to be one of the original ten...

It is interesting to see how our conceptions of Christianity seem at odds with the Old Testament, but I think that's more indicative of how 'Jesus-lite' Christianity has become, than it is of disagreements between the Old and New Testaments.

So, is God ultimately responsible for all evil? Your sin and mine? If by "our conception of Christianity" you refer to God's judgment, it is in both old and new testament.

Matthew was also Levi. I answered Levi before I answered Matthew.
