Agreed, tried typing Antigua for the last minute. Didn't even try Japan, because it doesn't fit the description nearly as well.

Have to agree. I put Japan first, only because I know its nickname as "the Land of the Rising Sun," but the flag itself doesn't really show the sun "rising." Malawi's flag is much closer to the actual description.

Technically, Imperial Japan had the flag that most represents that of a rising sun. Also, fun fact, the transliteration of the Star of David is "Magen David", pronounced ma-gen da-veed

If you type "States" then "Union", then it credits you instead with "sun" from further down, because the last "s" in "states" carries over into the next answer!

Vatican and Switzerland have square flags - mathematicians would (correctly) say that a square is a rectangle, but that feels a bit of a tight distinction in a general knowledge quiz. Maybe reference "irregular shape" or something like that instead?

"Which European countries have a flag that consists of three stripes: red, white, and blue?" - Maybe it should be changed to "ONLY consists of...". Flags like the Serbian flag would technically qualify otherwise.

Yes. Another flag fact: When the Filipino flag is flown with the blue bar on top, it signifies that the Philippines is in peace. When the red bar is on top it signifies that the nation is in a state of war.

Did you know that according to legend, the Dannebrog originates from the battle of Lyndanisse (in modern-day Estonia)? It is said to have fallen from the sky when the Danes had nearly been defeated and the flag led them to victory.

For the non-rectangular shape? A square is a special case of a rectangle (all the four sides have the same length), but a rectangle nonetheless.
Quoting the Quizmaster: "People should know that a square is a rectangle."

As others have said, the rising flag question is too open ended. Malawi as well as several other nations have flags depicting a rising sun. Fun fact: Malawi's former president declared that Malawi "had risen" out of poverty, so he changed the flag to that of a risen sun, much to the astonishment of most locals as well as foreign aid workers. Upon the death of said president, the flag was promptly reversed to the rising sun emblem.
