The former capital of the Ottoman Empire was the former capital of the Byzantine Empire. Now it's the former capital of the Ottoman Empire not the former capital of the Byzantine Empire. Been a long time gone, former capital of the Byzantine Empire. Now it's Turkish Delight on a moonlit night.

Very good historical geography quiz! Got 18/20, had no idea about England and missed Tuscany. Tschutzer is that a poem?

Never heard of Winchester. Missed Saigon, Avignon, Angkor, Winchester and Vichy.

It's a play on the lyrics to "Istanbul (not Constantinople)", covered by They Might Be Giants on the album "Flood".

That was awesome tschutzer! The former capital of England is Maidstone Kent, according to Wikipedia (which is what the quizmasters seem to like, as do I).

Please double-check the posted correct answers for both the "Ottoman Empire" and the Byzantine Empire"; if I am not mistaken, I believe the re- sponses have been reversed. It has, however, been ages since I have last graced either a history or geography classroom.

Ho Chi Minh city should definitely not be accepted. When Saigon became Ho Chi Minh city, South Vietnam ceased to exist.

I'm really surprised that only 10% get Winchester. Mind you, I'm British.

So I knew about Avignon, Vichy, Saigon, Lagos, Almaty but had no idea US capitals (except New york, but that was a guess)... Pretty much shows how we europeans ignore studying american history :/
