I just got 196 100% with 7 seconds to spare!! A few things though if Greenland Scotland and Wales are not recognized as countries Taiwan shouldn't be there !! Also you need to check PALASTINE is a country although a lot smaller than it used to be but in ALL records is still a Recognized state and Country . Israel does not occupy or govern that land !!

Taiwan is its own country and not part of China

But Taiwan - whilst clearly independent de facto - isn't officially recognised as an independent state - or as the Republic of China - by more than a handful of countries (many of them bribed microstates). Even if in practice the West treats it as a de facto state following their switch of recognition to the People's Republic.

Great test! Same comment as the French test: A few corrections are necessary, what exactly is the definition of "country"? If you take the UN list, which is the common understanding, you get 193 countries, plus two permanent obsevers which are Palestine and Vatican - http://www.un.org/en/members/index.shtml for the reference. So no Taiwan, no Kosovo, they should be removed. And you should add Palestine. Other than that, it's "Vatican" and not "Vatican City", the capital.

Kosovo declared independence in 2008. 108 UN states recognize the independence of Kosovo one of which is the US. Since the quiz is US based, I would say that if the US recognizes their independence, that is what is reflected in the quiz, which is the same reason that Taiwan is included but Palestine is not. Also, "Vatican City State" is the official name of Vatican City.

The US doesn't officially recognise Taiwan's independence - and never did, prior to Nixon's switch to recognising the People's Republic, the US recognised Taipei as the government of "the Republic of China" (i.e. China's legitimate government). It does treat Taiwan a lot like an independent country though.

And it is also why Burma is used rather than Myanmar.

I always typed Myanmar and it registered. I typed burma once to see if I could shave some time off, that works too. The quiz has a few different spellings for places built in, and I guess a few different names for countries. Type Myanmar, should you wish it.

I take this quiz pretty often now. I'm a political science major, and it's helpful when you can get a good idea of where the countries you're talking about are located in relation to others. IDK if that messes up the average, so it it does, sorry... but thanks for a useful tool!

Would you mind extending the time on the Countries of the World quiz? After taking this test for about two weeks now, I have learned all the countries, yet never find enough time to type them all in, I'm always short of (what??) maybe 5 minutes. Learning is very much a part of this as it can be a game. I have tried the Countries of the world game under another group, but it does not require all countries I like this very much better. Your other games provide much more time than this, This is probably the most huge of your games. Please consider extending the time by maybe 5 minutes. Or maybe, provide an option for that and make categories, if you like. Many thanks.

I still can't beat it! I've taken this about 7 times and I still can't do it. I'm up to about 185 of them, but grrrrr.... I've still NEVER gotten Singapore, Malta, East Timor, or Nauru. Everything else I get sporadically, but I have gotten at least 165 of them 100% of the time. This thing is so simple yet so hard!

Would you please consider extending the time on this quiz? Some of the quizzes have more than enough time, some have too much time but this, which is the largest one, is truly short of time. There is issues: sometimes the computer lags for moments, or freezes--I don't know why, but it comes back. Typos also occur as one types as fast as possible to try and finish, but the time is too short. AS this is also a learning tool (wanna know where every country is) and have such a limited cut off does not allow that.

'Palestine' is not a country, nor is it "an independent nation". In 2011, the Palestinian Authority (who leads the Palestinians in the occupied territories) applied to the U.N. to become a 'full member state', but their application was rejected due to a lack of support. In November 2012, the U.N. granted the Palestinians "non-member observer state" status. The Palestinian Authority has just recently started applying to the U.N. for another type of recognition. Just last week, the UN's special envoy on Mideast peace, Robert Serry, received requests from Palestinian officials to join 13 international conventions and treaties. And that is where it stands.

Enjoyed a lot. I won't complain much as it is a sensitive question what a 'country' is, but I can't let Taiwan go. Even the government in Taiwan - Republic of China - officially states that Taiwan is NOT an independent country but a part of China. There is formally only one China, though you are free to choose which of PRC and ROC is the 'true' government.
