How many of you just put a list of countries in front of you and type them all in?? That's is just testing your typing skills! How many can actually list them continent by continent then identify their spot on the map? I've been practising for months and getting close...I'm over 40yo!! I don't have lists; I am memorising the countries (including spelling) by continent and keep slipping up on ones I previously knew! Blah...back to practice.

I don't use a list but I usually get 190+ just based off memory. I can't memorise where each are on the map but I'm trying to work up to it. I've memorised the map of Africa but not the rest yet.

Countries are not all black and white, there are disputed nations that are recognized by some but not others. This quiz does a good job of including countries that are generally recognized as independent nations. There is a 'disputed nations not included in the countries of the world quiz' quiz. It's interesting and includes Greenland.

"Generally recognized" means recognized by the US. I agree however, this is one of the most logical ways to split the land mass, even though personally I'd prefer Palestine to be included, but I am sure there are people out there who would argue just as easily for West Sahara or South Ossetia. Countries part of sovereign nations (Greenland, but also Aruba or England) are grouped under their respective UN member, which makes sense as well. I'm sure there are quizes which show different lists of countries, for example the Olympic NOCs (e.g.adds Bermuda, Cayman Islands) or FIFA nations (e.g. adds England, Scotland)

This debate has probably been rehashed hundreds of times already, but why are Kosovo and Taiwan accepted, but Palestine isn't? Palestine has more international recognition, and like Vatican (and unlike Kosovo and Taiwan), has an observer status at the UN despite not being a member. I'm not trying to get into Israeli-Palestine conflict politics, I'm just going by numbers.
