Yup, ThomasPDunn is right. Not bragging here, just letting you know it can be done. Got all with 3:29 remaining and am just an average typist. BUT.....getting to this point took a long time and a LOT of practice. Keep trying & don't forget to take advantage of shortcuts (USA, DRC, UAE, etc.)!

Yes it took me a while but now I regularly do them all with six minutes or so left. Obviously a bit of typing speed helps, but also I've found that this quiz is great typing practice!

The Oceanic Micro Nations are, many of them, in the lowest of percentages for this quiz. They are visible when one clicks on the Micro Nations block in the lower left of the display. And they can be thought of and viewed as a string running from right to left, i.e. from West to East: Tonga, Samoa, Tuvalu, Nauru, Palau, Brunei, Singapore, Maldives, Comoros, Sao Tome.

I love this quiz and am now trying to improve my time. There is still one thing that irks the OCD in me. That little bit of yellow left for French Guyana. Surely it should turn green with France?

I agree about French Guiana. The same goes for Greenland, Puerto Rico and New Caledonia. Wish they'd turn green too. The map seems unfinished otherwise and my OCD says that's just wrong!
Aug 16, 2014

True French Guiana should turn green, it is more of a part of France, while the rest are territories. Trivia: France's longest border: Brazil.

Reading comments is almost as amusing as playing the trivia! When people point out their age or nationality over their eager of knowledge is intriguing. People rarely admit that they only post comments bragging about their tremendous accomplishments and intelligence after trying the quizzes over and over again or cheating, copying the answers from a wiki page. I have buit some quizzes of my own and we should humbly revere the guys who dedicatedly spend their time building these quizzes. Sure there are tricky issues; that's why they're so defying! If I am to do as most users, I should say I'm portuguese, I try most of the quizzes in English, Spanish and French, I master the ones in my language and being just a poor unemployed guy I've only travelled abroad 3 times and to nearby countries! :D Keep up the good work!

I love doing this quiz - when I first started I got a terrible score but improved after I studied some of the countries I didn't know much about then, as others suggest, start with your nemesis (Grenada for me) and go on from there. Leave the ones you know best til last. Now I self impose a month's ban on doing it and come back to see what the memory banks hold... have fun!

I am 14 years old and been studying where all the countries were since I was in 6th grade. I took this quiz the first time yesterday and got 95 and thought that that was an amazing score for someone my age until I saw that the average was 120. I took the quiz again today and got 121 and then the average was now 128. I hope I can get better and better at this quiz to be above average:)

Real question here is whether you can point to every country on the map. Or like I do, I can draw a map (Fairly decent, I'm not a true artist) with every country on it. I am not able to get the typing done fast enough, even though I know all the countries. I don't see how anyone can type that fast, lol! Well, I can, but still: I type 60wpm and can only get 178 as my highest. I guess if I kept doing the quiz over and over I might speed up my typing? No idea how that would work.
Sep 15, 2014
(65)
if you can type 60 words per minute, there is no excuse for you to not get done other than you don't know every country. Even if you only typed 20 words per minute, you can get 196 countries typed in about 10 minutes. You don't have to type fast. You just have to know them. 12 minutes is plenty of time...especially for a self proclaimed cartographer such as yourself.

Finally broke 5 minutes (5:18 to be precise). Don't know if I'll be beating that any time soon. I'm curious as to how other people approach this. I tend to work by continent and groupings within each continent as I hit it (e.g. the "Saint" islands in the West Indes get lumped together in North America and the similarly named ones like Niger\Nigeria, Mali\Malawi, Mauritius\Mauritania and the Guineas in Africa). Do other people prefer to work alphabetically, for example? Or just stick in names as they occur to them regardless of anything else? Thanks in advance for any replies and thoughts.

strictly geographically. I can't think of two worse ways than "alphabetically" and "as they occure to me". Canada USA Mexico Belize Guatemala Honduras Nicaragua El Salvador Costa Rica Panama Dominica Dominican Republic Haiti Bahamas Cuba Jamaica . . . . .
Sep 18, 2014
(68)
Like gidklio said, I fill in the map as I go, to make sure I don't forget any along the way. There only section I do semi-alphabetically is the Caribbean/Atlantic countries. Usually it's Antigua, Barbados, Bahamas, (see, not perfectly alphabetical) Cuba, Dominica, DR, Haiti, Grenada (Because I can't separate DR and Haiti. I've tried, and I can't), Jamaica, St K, St L, St V, Trinidad.
Sep 18, 2014
(65)
I've actually stopped looking at the map entirely. It makes me go faster because I don't bother getting stuck staring at one country. Once I start slowing down then I look at the map to see what I missed. I start at Canada and work down to south America. I know there are 23 N. American countries, and 35 total North and South. So if I hit 35/196 by the end of south America I know i'm good and move on. The alphabetical ones I do are usually the M's. I do Moldova Macedonia and Montenegro at the same time. Then I do Mala, Malawi, Mauritania, and Mauritius together. I do UK, Ukraine together, and I do Iceland, Ireland, Israel together. I have been taking this quiz so many times now that I have my own weird system.

ive been doing this quiz now for about 2 months - and im not going to say I done great at the start. I always thought i knew tonnes of countries but on my first attempt - only scored 72. Since then ive been doing this every few days, gradually learning a few at a time and watching my score trickle a little higher each time. When I hit the 160-170 area, i turned the timer off as i was starting to run out of time before id named what i could. Last week I finally hit 196 with timer off - and today managed to get all 196 with timor on with 0:55 seconds left!!! Seriously cant believe people on here have completed this with over half of the time left?!?!

I finally got 100%! When I first took this quiz, I think I got somewhere in the 40% range but then I took the individual continent quizzes and actually learned where all of the countries are. I've found that when people talk about small countries, I actually know where they are on the map because of this quiz!
