Very nice!

acer9199
apparently there's still about 21 percent of people who weren't aware of south sudan. I say that because if you get sudan, then you should also get south sudan. it's just like north and south korea now.

WOW! I missed Italy
2011-07-14
Rittings
Got them all first time of asking... but I have an issue that I NEVER had before the update... If you scroll up or down whilst doing it (sometimes I like to check the alpha order if I'm struggling) then when you go back up to the map (which I rely heavily on to tell me what I do and don't have) then the java (or whatever it is you use) messes up considerably, and doesn't fix itself... it leaves like a ghost over the top... here's a link to an image to show you what happens... its not so bad with all 196 countries greened out... but you can imagine how messy it looks when you see all the borders as you fill out!! http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/706/mapoftheworldc.png/
Quizmaster replies:
Your browser seems to be caching the old images... That problem should go away if you refresh hopefully. Congrats on getting 196 on your first try!

Well done. Now it's time for independence for the Conch Republic.

Okay I cleared my cache, hit refresh etc... and now it's worse lol... sometimes the images don't appear at all and I get broken links! haha... this certainly never happened before the update either :( http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/832/afterclearing.png/

Nice. After taking many attempts to finally learn them all several months ago, my own averages on countries like Comoros and Kiribati were a little lower than I would have liked. But now, after the reset, I can proudly claim 100% on all of them. :D

PROBLEM! The map has a "ghost, pale" image behind the "green" completed image and I can't see what I've done and what I haven't. Most annoying!
2011-07-15
Leela77
Okay so I cheated a little but this makes me more aware of countries across the world, without cheating i'd have gotten about 150 countries. It's all the little islands that get me everytime.

@Rittings, mine is doing that too!

Just to be picky, but shouldn't the Congos have to be entered separately? They *are* different countries after all.

Okay. I added a fix which will hopefully convince your browser to start using the new images.

acer, I got it down to 8:12 left, but that's only because I'm a super fast typer. Also don't know if you know but the quiz accepts uae for United Arab Emirates, usa, and uk so you don't have to type those all out :)

@brpetrelli French Guiana isn't a sovereign state, it's an overseas territory of France, which is why I would imagine it's blocked out, so people don't try guessing it.

The top scores are all beyond the range of human typing ability, so they cheated. My friend Sam was able to do it in less than 5 minutes. He also did the capitals in less than 5 minutes.

finally got them all! with 7 seconds left!!! stupid burkina faso....i kept forgetting the faso lol
2011-09-07
glennish731
My best time finishing with 8 minutes on the dot left...so anything close to 4 min is doable...anything faster than 3 minutes 30 seconds would be impossible...could you tell us how many people have times in the 4 min to 3:30 range? Just interested to see how many people can do this faster than 4 min but not cheating
2011-09-08
glennish731
just updating...finally broke 4 min...3:59...Quizmaster: what times were you considering too fast?
2011-09-09
Quizmaster
There's really no way to tell if cheating occurred. The fastest time that looks legit is 3:04. I say it looks legit, because the user took the quiz a few dozen times, showing improvement over time.

That would be the equivalent of typing about 70 words a minute.

2011-09-09
glennish731
not to say I'm the fastest typer in the world, and if someone can get this done in close to 3 minutes I'm in awe....I'm constantly typing as fast as I can with only a few misspelling pauses and 3:59 is the fastest I can do this...I think my peak would maybe be 3:45-3:35 if I typed perfectly. What is the fastest time overall...I'm just wondering how fast a cheater can do this...I'm assuming it must still take them about a minute.
2011-09-09

I'm overly competitive. Sorry about bugging you

Been doing this about 2 weeks and have finally got all of them. The one I kept missing was Sierra Leone for some reason! Now at just under 9 1/2 minutes.I have no idea how anyone human could type them all in 3 minutes.......
2011-09-14
Iain
100% :) You should really have to type in Congo and DR Congo separately.
2011-09-14
glennish731
I used to miss Sierra leone as well...I dont think 3 minutes is possible either, but then again I used to think 7 minutes was impossible and I can do it under 4 now on occasion. Still 3 min would have to be one of the fastest typers in the world
2011-09-15
Capital Ace
I am slowly getting faster, but getting them all in 8 minutes is my best time. Notice how so many of us are trying to improve our speed that the average correct is going up - it was 107 not that long ago, and is now up to 109. I'd like to know the average for the first try.
2011-09-15
lottie
So I thought I'd done it again and hadn't realised that since last night there are now 2 Congos...more long winded names to type...will never beat the time I've set now!

2011-09-17

I think my best time is around 3 minutes and 45 seconds, so under 4 minutes is definitely doable. (This took me a number of times trying, however) Kudos to whoever can do it win 3 minutes and 4 seconds!

Umm, when you say 3 minutes, do you mean you do it in 3 minutes meaning you have 9 minutes left, or you have 3 minutes left? 6 minutes is as fast as I can do it. that's easy to explain since it's exactly half the time.

Every single one of the 196 I've memorized. I would think that the least guessed would be some of the lesser antilles or some of the oceania countries such as tonga, vanatu, etc. but it is actually sao tome and principe. Didn't think that would be least guessed.

Great quiz. I've learned a lot. I'm a quadriplegic and my typing is limited to one thumb. So I use voice activated software to fill out the countries. Unfortunately the software makes lots of mistakes--ginny for Guinea, dionna for Guyana, etc.--which I have to correct w/ the thumb. Still I'm up to 180 in 12 minutes.
Quizmaster replies:
Nice work. I'm thinking that if JetPunk ever goes mobile, it will have to be voice-activated. Glad that it (sorta) works for you.
2011-10-26
ineedahobby
All done in 2.34 with 9.26 remaining including redoing a few typos, so I could probably shave .10 off my time if I kept at it. So yes, Quizmaster, it can be done fast without voice activation software or other cheating methods :) I don't even type properly - a glorified hunt and peck refined from years of practice - so I imagine an excellent typist could finish quite faster than me. I take the quiz frequently just to keep my memory skills sharp without signing in - but when I saw the new competition for fast times I just had to give it an official try myself. Everyone keep having fun with this and all the other great quizzes - JetPunk rocks!

YESSSS! I have been doing this quiz every morning, and today was my first time getting it done. I have 2:50 left to spare, so I'm not nearly in the running for fastest time, I'm just glad I've learned so much in the past few weeks. I make myself do it once a day, and I would have finished yesterday if not for dadgummed Nauru. I'll never forget it now, though :) Guess I get to work on world capitals next.
Quizmaster replies:
Nice work. Congrats!

195! I typed Ivory Coast and it disappeared only to come to find I had one missing at the end. Never thought to try Cote d'Ivoire...why would I when I know I typed in G-D Ivory Coast! So what comes up after the time expires? G-D Cote d'Ivoire! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!
Quizmaster replies:
I just double-checked. Ivory Coast works for Cote d'Ivoire.

How about making the ultimate geography quiz that blends the Countries of the World quiz along with the Capitals of the World??
2011-11-08
glennish731
ineedahobby- I don't mean to accuse you of cheating by any means, but finishing this quiz in under 3 minutes is rediculous...that would mean you are typing faster than a country a second...while I can do this with certain countries...like for all the guinea(s) I dont see how with countries like central african republic that anyone could average less than a second per country..I'm certainly not the fastest typer in the world, but I like to think I'm pretty quick and with a handfull of typos the fastest I've finished is 3:49 (with 8:11 remaining)..When transcribing the average WPM is 40 (with a standard deviation of 16.25) so 69.75 WPM (your average) would be almost 2 standard deviations away from the average...or in other words almost the best anyone could hope for...Obviously anyone of us that is finishing this in under 6 or 7 minutes has the countries memorized, but its still not the same as typing what is being said to you...so, I would think 3 minutes would be close to the fastest anyone could do this wit
2011-11-10
glennish731
Just as a follow up...only 5% of pro typers type at 70 WPM or better, and the average typo rate is 4% meaning that on a quiz like this 7-8 typos would be average for a pro typer...So, if you have the ability to do this in well under 3 min...you are probably the fastest person taking this quiz legitimately.
2011-11-10

Finally, I have been working on this for way too long, but I finally got them all. With just 1:50 left it's nothing to brag about, but I don't care, I'm just happy for myself.

I didn't even know you could turn the time off! YoungSinema - I found if there were always some I was forgetting, I'd write a few of them down on a piece of paper, and after I had entered all that I could remember, I would check the paper and enter any I'd forgotten. After a while I wouldn't need to check the paper

2011-12-06

Young Sinema...This is how I got them all (it took me probably about 25 doing the quiz or so). First go through all the regions and try to get as many as you can...then with the harder countries just try to remember all the countries with the same first letter...Like I do malta, maldives, moldova, and monaco at the same time...and angola, andora, and antigua...Bahrain,bhutan,brunei, and burma....things like that will help

I'm almost there. Best I can do it 180/196 without help. The African countries are quite difficult whereas I have N.A., S.A., Asia, Australia, and Europe memorized.
2011-12-15
acer9199
IMHO better to go with regions than trying to do them in alphabetical order. anyone who can get more than half of these countries probably knows about where everything is, and whatever they don't know, they can learn very quickly. then you are able to visualize the map, and do one region at a time. Having a good visual grasp makes it MUCH easier than trying to do them in ABC order, trust me. Same applies with the periodic table.
2011-12-16
acer9199
I start with USA, Canada, Mexico, countries of Central America, then South America, then Caribbean islands. Then I do all of Europe in ABC order. On to Africa, starting with Algeria, and working east, then down a layer and back west in an "S" pattern. Don't forget the 4 islands on the East. Middle Eastern countries are next. Just getting all the surrounding countries of Saudi Arabia (about 15 of them), is all you need to do. Then with Asia, I just work in a general eastern direction starting from the middle east area. I don't know why but I always group Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos, and type them together. I will also type China, Mongolia, the Koreas, and Japan together. Then hit the Asian islands (the ones north, or west of Australia). Then Australia, and the South Pacific Oceania islands (everything east of Australia). There you have it. West to east pattern, with some small group organization.
2011-12-16
acer9199
Oceania grouping: Largest and most well-known islands are (Australia, New Zealand, Fiji). The three outcasts are (Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Tonga). Next is all countries that end in "U" (Nauru, Palau, Tuvalu, Vanuatu). Last are the "M and S" islands (Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands).
2011-12-16
Jaq
I start with USA, Canada, Mexico, UK, Ireland, Iceland, Australia and New Zealand - otherwise I forget them because they're so obvious. The rest is done region by region, but not always in a specific order

YES! Finally I beat it, with 48 seconds to spare. Took me about half a minute to think up Lebanon but I did it... I also find it funny how many people can't name seychelles, or comoros, I got both of those easily on my first try but I guess that's because I'm a Madagascar fanatic.

This time I had about 1:48 remaining and ironically I forgot the seychelles until the very last country, only because I happened to look over it.

My record is finishing with 3 minutes left. I have no idea how other people can finish with 5+ minutes left. Perhaps I'm just a slow typer. :/

Taiwan is not part of China. The Taiwan government claims the "Republic of China" while the government of China is the "People's Republic of China." They are different governments. The Taiwan government is what got forced out by the communists after WWII. All they have left is Taiwan, and the communists have mainland China.

My best score is 189. It's the countries I can't spell that I don't get! I've mastered Asia, Europe, South America and Australiasia. It's West Africa and the Carribian I struggle on. *-*
