Illiterate doesn't mean uneducated, it means unable to read.

I disagree. l·lit·er·ate/iˈlitərit/ Adjective: Unable to read or write. Noun: A person who is unable to read or write. Synonyms: unlettered - ignorant - uneducated - unlearned

Synchronicity
Synonyms do not always have the exact same meaning. A person can be uneducated but still be literate, so the word would not apply in that case.

Illiterate specifically refers to reading and writing only. It does not mean uneducated.

I'm with the Quizmeister. Illiterate does not mean uneducated. You can be educated and still be illiterate. You can be uneducated and still be literate. Come on, people.

I agree with quizmeister. Don't rely on synonyms. They are not exact definitions of each other. Illiterate and ignorant are related... not the same thing.
