Crowlski | Pluto a dwarf planet which, like a regular planet, orbits the sun and has hydrostatic equilibrium (which gives it a spheroid shape). Unlike normal planets, though, a dwarf planet does "clear the neighbourhood", which means it's too small for its gravity to affect all objects in its orbit. The idea of reclassification came about when arguments were being made that other objects in space would need to be reclassified as planets (such as Eris) if Pluto was to be accepted as one. 2011-02-18 |
