Thank you Saved by The Bell for giving me the acronym to remember the planets. Pluto isn't a planet any more?

yup it was gone a long time ago...poor planet it was disolved......it was so far from the sun that it became into nothing.....

such a lie!! it is considered too small, and is half ice. basically, it is a very large comet that is in orbit.
Feb 28, 2013  delete
Wasn't the shape of its orbit another reason to dismiss it?

I'd take a science class if I were you... when Pluto was considered a planet, it was (and still is, in fact) the farthest from the sun.

Pluto is not a planet. Never was. Badly classified. That settles that.
May 30, 2013  delete
Pluto was a planet and unconsidered one because it crossed Neptune's orbit. That one who sadi because of its size, you probably got it from "Shut Up Cartoons" so I understand.

Technically, Pluto is a planet. It was just downgraded to dwarf planet and is no longer considered part of the main planets of the solar system.

Tell you what, we'll be fair as a community. You can count as having done better with Pluto IF you can name the other two dwarf planets as well. Include them all or include non - deal? ;)

Ceres, Eris, Makemake, Haumea, and I believe sometimes even Charon is counted, as it doesn't technically orbit Pluto.
Jun 5, 2013  delete
Pluto got demoted many years ago by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. It is considered a planetoid or dwarf planet. It's only about as big across as the state of Texas.

Pluto was officially declared a 'dwarf planet' a while back, because of it's size and irregular orbit, like the dwarf planet Eris (which only comes around like once every 200 years... or something)

Jan 9, 2011  delete  reply

No, Pluto orbits the Sun. You might be referring to the fact that the system of Pluto and its "moon", Charon has a center of mass that's outside of Pluto's surface, and that Pluto could also be said to be orbiting the center of mass of this system. If I'm not mistaken, despite its strange orbit, (Pluto's orbit is much farther from circular than the major planets and it's not close to being in the ecliptic plane as they are), this wasn't officially the reason it was downgraded to dwarf planet. I think it was the requirement that a non-dwarf planet be large enough to clear other debris from its orbit, which pluto, apparently, isn't.

Pluto a dwarf planet which, like a regular planet, orbits the sun and has hydrostatic equilibrium (which gives it a spheroid shape). Unlike normal planets, though, a dwarf planet does "clear the neighbourhood", which means it's too small for its gravity to affect all objects in its orbit. The idea of reclassification came about when arguments were being made that other objects in space would need to be reclassified as planets (such as Eris) if Pluto was to be accepted as one.

Yes, and if you wanted to, you could click pause timer. It's not like your trying to prove anything to anyone; there is not point in looking it up, that ruins the fun of it.
