You should also be proud of not using Eiffel for E

Well done! I got 24/26, so we can both be proud. And it´s good, that you didn´t always ask for the obvious word (no Seine, no Notre Dame, no France, and, as toowise has already stated, no Eiffel).

Missed two. And I totally knew the skyscrapers, had just forgotten. I think there are harder quizzes around, it's nice when there's a bit of a challenge.

Well made. French does not bend over backwards for this sort of exercise. Still, "knit" feels kinda weak for K. Charles de Gaulle is famous for wearing a "kepi". The only hat more French than that is the beret.

Agreed. I even managed to guess it on my first try despite knowing next to nothing about the book too.

The béret is in fact typically Basque and Béarnais (Pau region in the Pyrenees next to Basque country) more than globally French. Though it's part of French mythology for many foreigners, especially Americans.

Yes, I agree, although 'Tricoteuses' is much stronger than 'Tennis', so the knitting can remain, and it is as historically Parisian as you can get.

Clever quiz, but not a fan of K either. On the other hand, the Zeppelin is nice. One remark: there are about ten universities in Paris, the Sorbonne is just the first one.

How can a global (or at least continental) movement be centered somewhere?
+3
Level 73

If the people who have the biggest influence on the movement all reside in the same city / country, it's fair to say that this city is the center of the movement. The same is true if the ideas which define the movement are born in this city and then spread out to other countries. E.g. Even if the Renaissance was a continental movement, Florence was the city where it all started.

The first university of Paris was indeed La Sorbonne but it doesn't exist anymore. Nowadays there are 3 universities bearing the name "Sorbonne" (Pantheon - Sorbonne ; Sorbonne- Nouvelle ; and Sorbonne Université). Recently 2 Paris' universities (Descartes and Diderot) as well as the IPGP merged to become "L'université de Paris" (officially starting in 2020).

For these reasons "The name of the first university in Paris" would be a more accurate question. (Not saying this because I didn't find the answer btw)

Can Lutece count for L? It's how the French refer to it (you see it around Paris here and there) and it's how I learned it, despite definitely not being from France! Thanks!

Got stuck on that one as well. Maybe because I'm used to seing Lutèce in a few Astérix stories. Perhaps accepting Lutecia would be a good compromise?

The question asks for the name during Roman times, not what the French version of that name is. The name in Latin is/was Lutetia

"Enlightenment" is quite a trap for a French guy like me, because here we call it "Les Lumières" (Literally "The Lights" in English)... so it's not even the same letter...

Like others have mentioned, it's nice to change up some of the more famous landmarks but I will say that I (rightly or wrongly) don't especially associate the Enlightenment with Paris. Not that it threw me off or anything, though.
