Plántano is Plantain (less sweet than a regular banana and is used for cooking) and a regular sweet banana is banana in Spanish..

No. At least where I live a plantain is called "plátano macho"... "plátano" is used to refer to any kind of banana.

Well you live in a hole then. Bananas are the yellow sweet fruits. Plantains are either green or yellow and have a really different taste.
