It is in astronomical sense. In heraldry and vexillology, however, "sun" and "star" are well established as two distinct symbols. Otherwise, yo would have to include also Japan, taiwan and quite a few others.
Portugal: there are no stars. The tiny white dots on the blue shields are not stars, but "bezants" symbolising the 5 wounds of Christ - see the official descriptions.
Nepal: there are no stars. The large "star" on the lower penant is specified as a 12-rayed sun. It might look like a star but the country description should rule.
Omitted: Marshall Islands. The national flag description specified a large white star with 4 large rays and twenty small rays. Should be included.
It would be nice if the countries would be accepted with the same spelling as with the flag and capital quizzes (I only write 'saintkitts' or 'saotome' without spaces etc...). Otherwise a nice quiz
However, please allow "Congo" or "DRC".
