Brazil is here because of the St Peter and St Paul Rocks, which are on the African Plate, but claimed by Brazil

I would challenge Cyprus. Geographically, I don't see how it lies in any continent other than Asia. Also, there are some omissions: Netherlands straddles S. America. Italy and Portugal straddle Africa. UK also straddles Africa (St Helena and, more controversially, the Chagos Archipelago). Denmark straddles N. America. France also straddles N. America.

idk but if i didnt, I would have 3000 comments of strangers arguing

Nobody argues Cyprus is in Africa. People mention that it's closer to Africa than Europe as an argument against Europe, but nobody's arguing for Africa.

But so are India and mexico. Do you consider them to be 2 different continents?

Not really. They have too many borders, cultural similarities, linguistic similarities, and area to be counted IMO

Colombia should be there. With the San Andrés island in the Carribean, near the coast of Nicaragua. North american style

Jan 5, 2022
Definitely, especially as Venezuela is included. San Andrés is farther north than any Venezuelan land.

I don't believe that Cyprus or the UK should be here.

Cyprus is in either Asia or Europe, depends on who you ask, but not in more than one. I would remove it from the quiz.

Following the caveats, UK should not be included either. The UK is purely located in Europe, with overseas territories in all other continents. These are territories, but not regions like France. For Asia, it would be Akrotiri and Dhekelia (on Cyprus), but also the BIOT.

Shouldn't Panama be switched with Colombia? Since the last bit of the isthmus in part of Colombia and the end of the isthmus is where you would draw the border between the continents.

Baffled by Trinidad & Tobago! And I'm not quite sure how both Georgia and Armenia can be transcontinental, as the one is basically entirely north of the other and the continental border runs east-west :-S

If we're being geological about it though, I wonder if also Iceland should be included. The western 10% or so (as I remember) is on a North American plate, the rest on a European one.

Some people consider the Caucasus to be european

Jan 6, 2022
Yes, I realise that - but something surely can't be simultaneously European and Asian. Or are you including it on the same rationale as Cyprus? That would make sense, I suppose.

I would certainly add Norway to the list and I also don't think it would be outrageous to add Colombia and Japan.

You seem to have handled it but Norway would occupy the Eurasian Plate obviously and also the Antarctic Plate.

If you're defining continents by tectonic plates, then North America should be included as one of Russia and Portugal's continents, and the Himalayan countries certainly straddle the line between the "continents" of Eurasia and India. Also, Arabia and East Africa should be considered their own continents by this logic. Tectonic Plate boundaries are not the generally accepted boundaries of continents, so I would not use them here. However, if you wanted to make a "countries on multiple plates" quiz, I'm sure it would be well-recieved

Is Greece in here because of the Kastelorizo island south of Turkey? Because I dont see how Greece has Asian territory, and I dont know if Kastelorizo is considered Asian territory. (I'm Greek, asking out of curiosity)

in this case, kinda. But it is different for a lot of places because a lot of these territories are uninhabited except research personnel.
