I don't think that much of them are really among the best.

Besides Hitchcock, Ford, Renoir, Godard, Ophüls, Dreyer, Lang, Eisenstein, Murnau, Sternberg, Hawks, Buñuel, Rossellini and Griffith, the best film directors are James Benning, Budd Boetticher, Frank Borzage, Stanley Brakhage, Robert Bresson, Charles Chaplin, Marguerite Duras, Harun Farocki, Louis Feuillade, Ritwik Ghatak, Jean Grémillon, Buster Keaton, Peter Kubelka, Boris Lehman, Ernst Lubitsch, Louis Lumière, Leo McCarey, Kenji Mizoguchi, João César Monteiro, Luc Moullet, Mikio Naruse, Peter Nestler, Jafar Panahi, Pierre Perrault, Nicholas Ray, Jacques Rivette, Jean Rouch, Jacques Rozier, Douglas Sirk, Victor Sjöström, Michael Snow, Jean-Marie Straub & Danièle Huillet, Erich von Stroheim, Jacques Tati, Jacques Tourneur, Marie-Claude Treilhou, Tsai Ming-liang, Paul Vecchiali, King Vidor, Raoul Walsh, Wang Bing and Frederick Wiseman.
