1. Which statement is false?
For all values of a and b: a + b = b + a
24 + 37 = 51
1 meter equals 100 centimeters
24 + 37 = 61 - don't forget to carry the 1
2. Which statement is false?
10 ÷ 3 = 3 ... 1
3 + 5 × 4 = 3 + 20 = 23
1034 is greater than 1043
1034 is less than 1043
3. Which statement is false?
Rounding 37.5 to the nearest integer gives 37
1 centimeter equals 10 millimeters
The number 15 contains 1 ten and 5 ones
It actually yields 38 because if the most significant digit being dropped is 5 or higher then you must round up
4. Which statement is false?
9876 is greater than 6789
The number 1,234,567 is read as: one million, two hundred and thirty-four thousand, five hundred and sixty-seven
1 kilometer equals 1000 meters, so 1 square kilometer equals 1000 square meters
1 square kilometer equals 1,000,000 square meters because everything is squared
5. Which statement is false?
Area of a triangle = ½ah, where a is the base and h is the height
3 × 50% = 3 × 50 ÷ 100 = 150 ÷ 100 = 1.5
Area of a circle = 2πr, where r is the radius
Area of a circle = πr2
6. Which statement is false?
The expression 25 ÷ 4 + 1 does not equal any numerical value because 25 is not divisible by 4
An obtuse angle is one that is greater than 90° but less than 180°
A cube has six sides
If m is not "divisible" by n, then the expression m ÷ n cannot yield an integer, but n can still divide m and give a fraction/decimal
7. Which statement is false?
The following things are the same: ¼, 1 ∶ 4, 1 ÷ 4
0.01 + 0.002 = 0.012
4 × 7 = 28
¼ is a fraction - it's a number; 1 ∶ 4 is a ratio - it describes a relationship; 1 ÷ 4 is an expression, which is not a number but can yield a numerical result
8. Which statement is false?
The largest integer you can make with the digits 0, 1, 2, and 3 is 3210
24 × 12 = 24 × 1 + 24 × 2 = 24 + 48 = 72
The greatest common divisor (GCD) of 8 and 12 is 4
24 × 12 = 24 × 10 + 24 × 2 = 240 + 48 = 288
9. Which statement is false?
1 ÷ 7 = 0.143 to 3 significant figures
30 ÷ (2 × 3) = 30 ÷ 2 × 3 = 15 × 3 = 45
30% of 10 is 3
30 ÷ (2 × 3) = 30 ÷ 2 ÷ 3 = 15 ÷ 3 = 5
10. Which statement is false?
4 + 8 − 3 = 12 − 3 = 9
Adding 1 to an even number always gives an odd number
You can divide by zero
You cannot divide by zero

#8 is incorrect because the GCD is 2. This means there is only 1 truth in that question!

4 times 2 is 8 and 4 times 3 is 12, so the GCD should be 4

I'd argue that the third option is also wrong. Only uncultured swine use "and" when saying numbers.
