My source is citypopulation.de. Please note that townships are included here too. Populations of cities in Gauteng province have been somewhat inflated but this was certainly the best data I could find (see here)

Thank you! The grey dots are the provincial capitals that didn't make the population cut-off. I like to include them in this series, so that no region is blank.
