Yeah that is right,Macedonia is a region in greece with its capital located in Thessaloniki a city in Greece,now if you mean the country of ''North Macedonia''it gets tricky trying to understand,The ancient state of Macedonia was located in Greece and in "north macedonia".
Alexander the great spoke ancient greek wich is a language that is mainly studied in Greece and is considered to be the start of the greek that is spoken now.
So Alexander the great was greek and was born in Pella,a region wich is in Greece even today.
Also if by saying he was from macedonia mean from ''north Macedonia" because he was not, his territorial claims reached ''north macedonia'' so you could say that Alexander the great was for example he was Indian, but that would be a false statement because he was born in Pella,Greece.
