Perhaps you mean USSR rather than Russia? Or is that figure actually for Russia proper?

Mad to think that a country as huge as Brazil had a very similar population to the UK so recently.

I forgot to mention that this only includes the modern territory. Anything else Russia used to own at that time would not count.
