Lands in Florida and claims the land for Spain. First landed in Puerto Rico and hears of the fountain of youth, sails north in search of it, doesn't find it, travels down the Florida Keys, then returns to Spain

Travels from Cuna to Mexico and invades the Aztec empire. Received orders from the governor of Hispaniola to seize the interior of Mexico, governor takes back the orders but he goes anyway. Makes friends with the tribes who don't like the Aztec, builds army. Ignores treaties by Montezuma, enters Tenochtitlan and defeats the Aztecs and claims Mexico.

Discovered a way to sail to the tip of Africa, from Lisbon Portugal, storms cause him to navigate away from the coast and he became the first to sail around the Cape of Good Hope in 1487

Thought he was going to China where he wanted to spread Christianity and develop trade relations. Spain provides 3 ships and 90 Crew. Lands in the Caribbean, though thought to be the East Indies. Establishes Hispaniola that became Haiti. 2nd Voyage he reaches the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico. 3rd trip, he returns in shackles from Hispaniola. 4th trip explores Central American and is stranded on Jamaica, rescued and returns home.

Uses a water route around Africa to reach India, Portuguese. Arrives at two Arab settlements Mombasa (hostile) and Malindi (kind and trade with him) becomes a popular route.

Sails to Newfoundland in the name of England, departs in May 1497, mistakenly believing he found the coast of Asia.2nd voyage intended to sail to Japan, encountered a storm, one of the 5 ships arrives in Ireland, the rest are presumed dead, along with this explorer.

Subliewtenant in teh Russian fleet of Tsar Peter I the Great, he is selected to lead a voyage to see if Russia and North America are connected by land. Finds no evidence of connection. Finds the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, and a Sea, Glacier, Strait, Island, and a Bridge that eventually bare his name.

Venetian merchant who traveled to China and served Kublai Khan from 1266-1269, later brought back his son in 1274 and served until 1292. He served as governor of Yangzhou, captured by Genoese at the Battle of Curzola, dictated his memoir to his prison cellmate.

Crosses the Isthmus of Panama and became the first European to see the eastern shore of the Pacific Ocean in 1513

Explores the South American Coast and allegedly discovers the mouth of the Amazon river. 2nd voyage discovers Brazil, convinces European Scholars that they haven't been landing on Asia but rather a "New World" and named the new worlds after him

Explored the Artic and Antarctic between 1819 and 1843. A Sea and an Ice Shelf are named after him.

Charts the longest river in Canada and travels to the Pacific Ocean. Starts at Great Slave Lake and goes all the way up to the Artic Ocean. in 1793 he leads another expedition where he travels across the Rocky Mountains in what will later become British Columbia. The longest river in Canada is named after him.

Sails the Mississippi River and names it basin region Louisiana. Thinks about using the Great Lakes and the River to transport cargo between the Gulf and Canada. He successfully canoes down the Mississippi and names it after Louis XIV

Leads a group of Puritans to a new settlement in New England. After pressures from economics and religion by the English government he joins the Massachusetts Bay Company when it receives a royal charter from Charles I. He is later elected governor of the colony.

Builds the Wilderness Road in Kentucky, blazes a trail through the Cumberland Gap.

Travels from Spanish-controlled Mexico to the Rio Grande Valley and eventually across the Great Plains to now Kansas. He starts his journey after hearing about the Seven Golden Cities of Cibola. Eventually heads into Arizona and the Grand Canyon, to New Mexico and Texas, never finding the cities he returns in 1542 after his two year journey.

Travels from Mexico to modern-day Peru and conquers the Inca Empire. Charles V grants him permission to conquer the Incans. Meets representatives of Atahualpa, (Inca emperor). A priest with the traveling party confronts Atahualpa and askes to converts him to Christianity, when he refuses, Pizarro attacks and captures Atahualpa. He remains in control for a few years until sons of his late exploring partner storm his palace and kill him.

Attempts to find the Northwest Passage, first leaves England, lands in Tahiti, proceeds to Hawaii, sails up the west coast of North America, spends a month among the native people of Nootka, goes up to Bering Strait, returns to Hawaii.

Sails for Spain and commissioned to find the Northwest Passage. Departing from Mexico he travels up the Pacific coastline as far as Vancouver Island. He sails into the Puget Sound thinking it was the Northwest Passage, and the Strait going into the sound is named after him along with a small tectonic plate near this area.

begins the voyage to circumnavigate the earth. Wanted to prove the Spice Islands location and that they belonged to Spain. Crossed the Atlantic, traveled below South America, (later a strait was named for him there). Though his crew eventually successfully completes the task, he is killed in the Philippines.

Leads an expedition from Spanish-controlled Mexico into what is now the southeaster part of the United States. Part of the mission that conquered the Inca's. commissioned by Spain to conquer more of Florida, he works his way up through Georgia, Carolinas, and Tennessee, then south to Alabama,

Famous trip across the Louisiana Territory, with Sacajawea and Shoshone Native American they reach the Pacific in November of 1805. There were 30 others in their party.

Leads the first French Expeditions into North America, having already explored part of South American, he discovers Prince Edward Island and sails the Gulf of St Lawrence, 2nd voyage he travels the St Lawrence up to Quebec, and eventually to Montreal.

He explores the Pacific Coast of North America, claims the land in the name of England calling it New Albion. Keeps his traveling secrets a while because he plundered several Spanish settlements on his way.

Traveled along the Arkansas River to explore the Louisiana Territory, established an outpost in Colorado after encountering the front range of the Rockies. He tries to climb a Peak that was later given his name. He travels south to New Mexico, is seized by the Spanish but released in Texas.

3 unsuccessful searches for the Northwest Passage under the direction of the Muscovy Company, 2 attempts block by ice. last attempt derailed plans of traveling to Holland and instead travels up his namesake river and later a namesake bay in Canada
