I like the spirit of the quiz, but I'm afraid the numbers are way off. Let's say 5 people die annually worldwide from shark attacks, which is a low estimate. That would mean hippos kill 29,000 and that lightning kills 240,000. Lightning would be responsible for one out of every 230 deaths, and hippos for one out of every 1900. But that pales in comparison to the plague that is Black Friday. Nearly 16% of American deaths on that day would be attributed to shopping. Impressive indeed!
According to National Geographic, 1 person dies of Shark Attacks every two years. So 0.5 people per year. 2,900 people die of hippo attacks, 1/2300 people die of lightning, that seems pretty reasonable when you think about it! Also have you been to a Black Friday Sale? I'm surprised more people don't die.
Brilliant quiz, love it. Quizmaster is right about the 5 fatalities, though; your figure of half a person dying every year is the number for the USA. I am amusing myself now with the vision of 2,900 hippopotamuses rampaging through the streets of Dallas and New York.
