I'm pretty sure that Vienna is to far west in this map

Great quiz! I didn't get a few german ones, especially the ones that just integrated into other cities.

Tameside didn't exist as such at the time - it was separate towns like Ashton, Stalybridge etc until 1974. Elberfeld certainly did exist as a town then, but it is now part of Wuppertal - no problem with it being there, but it's inconsistent with Tameside being an answer.

Really evident the places where the industrial revolution began first.

Oh, definitely. The development of the urban areas of Birmingham, Manchester and the Ruhr can be very clearly seen here.

Crazy that Glasgow proper was bigger then than it is now (assuming these figures aren't for the whole urban area).

Figures for the Britsh cities are from the 1901 census, which I believe indeed uses city proper.

Really interesting, but I'm surprised that more people knew Bolton than for example Halle. Also no Sofia, Athens or Belgrade really surprised me.

I feel so dumb not having recognized Strasbourg within 1900 German territory!

Nice quiz.

West Ham has never been anything other than an integral part of London

Thanks! West Ham was definitely still a separate urban district. It only became part of a Greater London in 1965 following the London Government Act 1963.
