Personally I was surprised to not find Greenwich Village, DuPont Circle, or Key West, Florida on any of these lists.

yeah. but.. I thought it was an obvious answer and if you named all the gayest cities, then you would have gotten it right in both columns, so I didn't see a need for a warning or caveat. Thanks for playing. :)

Except it's literally not a state. It's kind of a major point of contention here.

I got all the cities and states, but washed out on the neighborhoods. I typed in Oakland for one of the cities and it showed up as a neighborhood. But I typed in Boston, Detroit, San Francisco, and Dallas for cities, but none of them showed up as neighborhoods. Why the inconsistency?

The "neighborhoods" section is really about zip codes, as already explained. Those zip codes might not be one cohesive place, so there are often multiple type-ins that are accepted for them. San Francisco has tons of neighborhoods and many zip codes. Actually a lot of people would consider Oakland to be one of them. but while the 94131 zip code represents a few different neighborhoods I didn't want to give people more credit for just typing San Fran and not knowing the Castro District. Ft Lauderdale and Oakland I personally don't really view as cities, more like suburbs of Miami and San Francisco respectively, and the neighborhoods associated with them are not very famous, so if you guessed them then I thought "close enough." Other places like the Castro and West Hollywood are famous in their own right.

Ouch. Ft lauderdale and Oakland not even cities?

I combined the data from 3 different places for this quiz. The "neighborhoods" section is about ZIP codes. There is one zip code each in those places where there is a high percentage of homosexual people residing, not the entire "city," though neither Ft Lauderdale nor Oakland are especially large places so maybe it is close to being the whole city.

So, Northampton, Rehoboth Beach, Provincetown aren't neighborhoods. They're entire municipalities.

kalbahamut,

As someone who is gay, your politically correctness is again why there is so much oppression of the gays in the first place. You not wanting to offend anyone is part of a culture that doesn't want to say ANYTHING wrong, and nowadays, God FORBID you are anti-gay. What if this was highest concentration of straight people? Or whites or blacks? Who cares? Honestly, it was nice finding heavily gay neighborhoods. These are just statistics. It's not that this quiz is saying "The Gayest/Most EVIL Places in America." No. I'm sorry to hear about your son, but these are just plain statistics; so take your sob story and political correctness somewhere else.

Who are you even talking to? It seems like you have somehow combined comments from more than one user and attributed them to me. And I have no idea what you are talking about concerning political correctness.

What IF it were a quiz on the highest concentration of straight people? Or African Americans? Maybe then it would be featured on the front page? Or are you implying in those cases it wouldn't be acceptable? I honestly don't get what you are trying to say.

Also, I'm sure that there are many users on this site who would take serious issue with your implication that I am afraid of offending people. haha. That's actually kinda funny.

I was surprised not to see Salt Lake City on this list. According to The Advocate, it was the gayest city in America in 2012, and I think it dropped a few places over the next few years but remains in the top ten. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/01/10/10097194-gayest-us-town-surprise-its-salt-lake-city?lite. They did not use scientific figures in their tabulation, but rather participation in "gay" activities, etc.

I think this data uses different metrics. But it's from different sources. The zip codes one, for instance, relied on same-sex cohabitating couples. Looking at participation rates in gay activities could yield a completely different result I imagine, depending on the age of the local community and how much the events draw in people from surrounding areas, etc. Something like this is a bit hard to measure.

I'm sure this include metro areas. SLC may be quite gay in the city limits but let's just say the suburbs... not so much. If you look at cities like Boston or San Francisco the suburbs are often as much if not more progressive than the city itself.

I missed a couple probably because of not typing "DC", which automatically comes up by merely typing "Washington" on many Jet Punk Quizzes.

I've been out for about 30 years. But I haven't had the luxury of traveling in gay circles, so there's a lot about the gay-world-at-large that I haven't known about or experienced. So, it surprised me to see Massachusetts come up so heavily in this.

But if you are going to put up a quiz like this, honestly, you should cite sources, otherwise it can easily be construed as meaningless, even it does seem pretty accurate.
