France may be most famous for student protests internationally, but they happened in many other countries. In Mexico they were fuelled by the Summer Olympics hosted by an authoritarian regime; 10 days before its opening, armed forces committed the Tlatelolco massacre against peaceful civilians. Major strikes and demonstrations seized Italy throughout the late 60s. The (West) German youth rebelled against the Nazi past of their parents and a government that was led by an ex-member of the Nazi party. The Båstad riots in Sweden were a reaction to a tennis match against Rhodesia (an apartheid country).
