Curacao is not a "country" (sovereign nation); it's part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Faroe Islands are part of the Kingdom of Denmark. The Cook Islands are part of New Zealand. The preferred name for Timor Leste on this site is East Timor. Otherwise, a good quiz.

Thanks; as to your specific remarks please note the instructions. My personal experience, as a New Zealander who has travelled to the Cook Islands, is they are absolutely different countries. (Both are part of the "Realm" of NZ, but using that to claim the Cooks aren't a separate country is as silly as saying NZ isn't a country because both it and the UK are part of the "British" Commonwealth). Come over for a holiday and you'll see what we mean - if you tell any local that the Cooks are "part" of NZ, they'll give you a really weird look, plus a geography lesson. Finally "East Timor" also contains an o and is accepted as a type-in, although it shouldn't be a "preferred" name on any website, because that's not its actual name.

England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales are also "countries", but they aren't sovereign nations, which is how "country" is defined on this site. By that standard, the Cook Islands are not a country. Regardless of your instructions, the site has to be consistent about the definition of "country". As you know, Jetpunk recognizes 196 countries. I suppose you could rename the quiz "Autonomous Countries Containing O".

I wasn't saying that Timor Leste doesn't belong on the quiz since, obviously, Timor has an O in it. "Timor Leste" is Portuguese for "East Timor". Saying that East Timor is not the actual name is like saying that "Germany is not the actual name of Deutschland", or "Italy is not the actual name of Italia". The standard English name for the country in question is East Timor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Timor. The site has to be consistent with country names. I'm sure you remember the "Burma vs Myanmar" debate

Yes, good points: you have touched on the varying degrees of nationhood, so at what point should they appear as countries in a world countries quiz? Dan wrote his country quiz on this website with 196 countries as you know, Sporcle has 197 (Dan's lot plus Palestine), our ones have the 205 that you are becoming familiar with, and citypopulation.de has no less than 243 (which no doubt will make your hair stand on end). And that's not even considering England/Scotland/Wales/Northern Ireland, Åland, Transnistria, and several others till finally you come to our sentimental favourite, the Principality of Hutt River. To answer your main point, just because Dan decides to include or exclude countries from his list does not create reality. We disagree with his view, but that doesn't make him wrong, or us either. It simply means that there are different ways of looking at it. Now, you know the instructions here, so you know what you have to do here for full points. Have fun!

Timor-Leste's constitution is in three languages (English, Portuguese and Tetum), and in the English version you will find that the name of this country in English is "Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste". In addition, from Wikipedia: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) official short form in English and all other languages is Timor-Leste (codes: TLS & TL), which has been adopted by the United Nations, the European Union, and the national standards organisations of France (AFNOR), the United States (ANSI), United Kingdom (BSI), Germany (DIN), and Sweden (SIS), all diplomatic missions to the country by protocol and the CIA World Factbook.
